Gavin identified him as a Tree monitor. I've learned on line that he also has other names: Rock monitor, White-throated monitor, Tree leguan. But out of loyalty to our excellent guide, I'll stick with the name he used.

Tree Monitor seems pretty good to me, if it wanted to monitor that tree I wouldn't argue! A fine capture of this impressive lizard!

PS. Seems pretty thoughtless of your neighbours re the badger, but the perhaps they were too rapt in the moment! I must have stood stock still, transfixed for fully thirty minutes so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt!
