Spring-Summer - 135
Hairy caterpillars
are instinctively
avoided by many
birds ...
... their gut contains
toxins that make
them sick ...
But some cuckoos
like Jacobin ...
and Common Hawk Cuckoo
... seen here
have developed skills
to turn them into
easily availabele
delicacies ...
They squeeze the
grub on the wire or the
bough ... squirting
out the gut toxins ...
... then swallowing it
... hair and all ...
... the hair is separated
in the stomach and
is spit out in the
form of a pellet ...
What method ... Nature
has bestowed on
them ....
This image was captured
after Sunset ... while
coming back from a
long day of birding
through agrarian wildeness
of North India ...
This guy ( minus the grub )
may be seen in a video clip
where he gives his trademark
call as well ...
