Jackdaw
Caught this chap in the middle of the road - good job it's a wee village, I think LOL

I decided to try and get a bit fitter after a second hospital admission and walk the other way, down the hill into the village, then uuuup the hill to the canal! I'd only gone a few yards when I got this guy (bit of a corvid day this one). For some reason I had focusing problems though

Great pose in this image of a jackdaw, Delia. Maybe your focusing problem was due to the fact that you were trying to focus on a grey head against a grey backdrop. The camera was confused. Its good to know you can walk down to the village. Keep well.

Good catch Delia, apart from what Joelle said heat haze coming off the tarmac on sunny days can cause focus problems.

Looks like it focused on the pavement behind the bird. My camera does the same thing. Quite often in a situation like this what I do is aim the lens at the bird's feet or just this side of it's feet and half press to lock focus, then aim back up at the bird and then shoot. , and for some reason it will bring the bird into focus better. Nice catch nonetheless.

Nature's camouflage at work, Delia! Ha! I have focus issues too - my Nikon D7200 doesn't seem to have a setting with single focus point. I can force it by using the button on the auto / manual switch, but then have to use full zoom to get proper focus. Most of the time I end up on manual focus, which is not great when you have a split second to get the shot. Harrumph!
