Nutria (Myocastor coypus subsp. bonariensis) known as Coypu outside the USA. This introduced rodent has been widely introduced outside of its native range primarily by fur traders. Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, Chambers County, Texas, USA. Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes Vegetational Area. Shoveler pond.

Lovely close-up. They were introduced or escapees from fur farms in the UK too. I remember seeing some in East Anglia many years ago.

Nice close up of this Coypu Stanley . They were bred locally for their fur in Suffolk UK where I grew up , some escaped , bred and did untold damage to the river banks . My brother had a young one as a pet untill the powers that be found out and took it away !!
