I found this, from 2015, when trawling through the archives. Not a beautiful photo, but perhaps it serves to illustrate the nature of Herring Gulls (and indeed other large gulls). Ill-mannered, greedy, noisy, rapacious, bullying and aggressive. These are at least characteristics they have in common with our own species. Though there have been virtually no HGs coming down to perch like this since 2015, and I rather miss them...
I'm assuming these birds are all the usual subspecies found in Britain, L.a. argenteus. If anyone knows otherwise, I'll be delighted to be corrected.
