Martial Eagle (immature) in Nossob Valley, South Africa
With only few bird of prey species in the area, you would think a large eagle in the Kalahari should be easy to identify - but it was not. In fact, the only large eagle with fully-feathered white legs that does occur in the region is an immature Martial Eagle.

Note the striking resemblance to the Hippogriff in the "Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban" movie.

Picture taken on the afternoon of 16. Nov. 2011 in the Nossob Valley (Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park) about 20 km north of Twee Rivieren.
