Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea)

When first posting this, I said it might be the Hairy Hawker (Brachytron pratense). But that species wouldn't be flying as late as September. It looks likely to be Southern Hawker (thanks go to my brother for that ID).

Like all my insect photos, not a true macro shot but taken with the 100-400mm, here at 400mm.
Habitat
Mix of countryside, parkland, and land formerly used for sewage farms
Location
South Norwood Country Park, London Borough of Croydon, UK
Date taken
20 September 2019
Scientific name
Aeshna cyanea
Equipment used
Canon EOS 7D Mk II, EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM

A beautiful well focused and colourfully lit close up you have of this Hawker John. Brilliant, well done.

Supporter
A beautifully, detailed closeup of this Hawker John and a brilliant capture buddy!

I admire your bottle
as much as your
photograph, Jonno.
I always imagine
that insects like this
will sting, sting, sting me,
and give them a wide
berth.
