Southern Hawker

Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea)

Being mostly stuck indoors, nearly all the insects I've photographed have been 12 to 15 feet away on a tree level with my window, and small in the frame. On a visit to the Country Park last month, the camera was set up for bird photography. But it turned out that there were dragonflies only about 6 feet away. I forgot about depth of field, and this was taken with a shutter speed of 1/800th sec, at f/6.3. Doh! Could have used f/11 and got the whole creature in focus, plus better image quality. Well, there's always next year, and I'm not unhappy with this result.

Thank you for your kind comments on my pictures, and good birding!
