Washtub Nest (Bubo virginianus)

This is the most well-known Owls' nest in the Detroit area. In 1991, the Great Horned Owls' nest that was here collapsed before the young were ready to fledge. The park staff put this washtub in this tree to aid them. For almost every year since then Great Horned Owls have used it for nesting.
