White-crowned Sparrow

I'm still not entirely sure how it happened ... but somewhere between the rainy weather, the end of daylight savings, long hours at work and successive cold fronts encouraging the migrants onward, I managed to completely miss the autumnal visit of one of my favourite birds this year. To cheer myself up, I pulled out some old sketches and put one where I'd expected to have found him -- skulking about in the late fall leaf litter.

I can't think of a better reason to paint 'an old friend', Jomo, and a really nice job too. I like the way the sparrow's back blends with the leaf-litter, allowing just its head and breast to pronounce. It breaks up the bird-shape, camouflaging it.
Great stuff.
