Yellow-throated Honeyeater
The Bosun

Yellow-throated Honeyeater (Nesoptilotis flavicollis)

Not really a quality image, but as we can only find one other pic of this bird in BF, we felt we must share it.

This pic was taken from a hill within the grounds of the historic Port Arthur Penal Settlement. The bird was in the canopy, being tall gum trees growing at the base of the hill. Being an 18-21 cm bird, they were hard to see, let alone photograph. Result one identifiable capture, heavily cropped.

The Yellow-throated Honeyeater is endemic to Tasmania and the islands in Bass Strait.

As one would expect, we did not identify the bird until we were home.

Interestingly, 3 minutes later, we photographed another, smaller bird in the canopy. The appears to be a Black-headed Honeyeater (13-15cm), which also has only one pic in BF. We will see how we go at making that pic presentable later.
Habitat
Endemic to Tasmania, the Yellow-throated Honeyeater is found in a range of habitats, including wet and dry forests, woodlands, sub-alpine forests, temperate rainforest, wet scrubs and coastal heathlands.
