    Black Duck at Strontian, Argyll

I am heading up to Scotland next week and was also wondering if anyone has been to look for the Black Duck in recent weeks?

    Birding St Lucia

I have just returned from a holiday in S Lucia with my wife and 6 month old son. I was keen to try and see the endemic and range restricted specialist species without encroaching on the family holiday too greatly. As such, I chose a hotel (Fond Doux) where I could pick up some of the commoner...

    Tehran - wheatear

Annoyingly there is no better pic - it flew shortly afterwards and when I returned the day after wasn't around. I also saw Eastern Black-Eared on the visit and I am confident this was different (the black joined up) so I will stick with my Finsch's suspicion. Really appreciate the steers!

    Tehran - wheatear

This bird was seen in the hills north of Tehran - I am thinking Finsch's Wheatear but would like confirmation? Andrew

    Andalucia, Spain

Thank you - that was my hunch. Does the tail always look like that when on the ground? From their report it sounded as if it had flown into something and had got stunned. I told them to leave it alone and it happily flew off shortly afterwards.

Interactive world bird list needed - Excel?

All, The UK 400 club has the very useful Excel spreadsheet of UK birds - a handy and interactive place to keep a count of species seen. Is there anything available on a global scale? Many thanks, Andrew

    vultures eat woman in Pyrenees

Human flesh is not poisonous at all. Indeed, in Indian Parsi culture it is traditional for bodies to be left for vultures. The current crisis in the Indian vulture population has caused Parsis a real problem, hence prominent industrialists being some of the main proponents of vulture protection.

    Golden Pheasant sites

Update - on 28th January at 0845 I finally saw a Golden Pheasant at Wolferton! I think it was on the 16th attempt.

    Golden Pheasant sites

Another unsuccessful GP weekend! I can confirm that there do not seem to be any birds at Wayland Wood, and the Woferton triangle again proved unsuccessful!

    Golden Pheasant sites

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried Wayland Wood in the past (and also Sculthorpe) with no success. This is really my bogey bird - I even went to Longleat Safari Park at the weekend and failed to see one in their walk through aviary!! I was hoping there were a couple of hidden sites - or...

    Golden Pheasant sites

Having now been to Wolferton easily into double figures in the last 18 months, can anyone confirm how many birds are still there? And are there any other reliable sites (with tickable birds)?
