    Birds of prey S. France Thanks Fergus I've seen a good few buzzards but not one with such a dark head. The attached is a short toed eagle. Same region but coastal plain.

    I suspect it's a Kestrel but it looks rather bulky. I'm more used to seeing them from below when perched on telegraph wires.
