Looks like an adult golden eagle to me

    Windy day

Same male goshawk, with a gust of wind making him look like one of the exotic crowned eagles. Quite a big crop.
  3. A male goshawk

    A male goshawk

A city dweller. The woodpecker in my previously uploaded photo (taken about the same time) was really frightened by him.

    Scared and hiding

This greater spotted woodpecker had noticed the goshawk perched up in a tree. She was obviously scared and hiding, perched low on another tree, with the tree trunk hiding her from the goshawk. She did not move and she let me get very close. Eventually the goshawk flew away without striking.

Thanks for looking. In Finland quite many raptors are being ringed in the nest, that makes it possible to understand how they move around after leaving the nest. Despite being ringed, I would call this a wild bird.

Raptors over my garden: common buzzard

During autumn migration, some birds of prey fly over our garden. Most often I see common buzzards, goshawks and sparrowhawks, sometimes even eagles, golden and white-tailed. The raptors usually fly to high for reasonable photos. This buzzard is one of a string of four, adults and juveniles...

Raptors over my garden: northern goshawk

This female goshawk appeared from behind some trees very close to me. Prior to that, a large flock of crows flew over, so I was prepared with the camera when the goshawk appeared. She is backlit, but seems to work with light-colored birds.

Thanks for looking. That's the only time I've seen the eagles doing that, and I'm not sure what is the meaning. The eagle in the photo is the female. The photo is taken during nesting season, when she hunts very little (if at all); she might be playing, practicing or just asserting her...

...and she surely snatches back the falling grasses.

    Diving

The golden eagle dives after the falling grass.
  12. Soaring golden eagle

    Soaring golden eagle

The eagle has some dry grass in her claws. She soared until she reached a good height; once there, she let go of the grass, only to dive after it and snatch it in mid-air. I was lucky to capture the action.

Thanks for looking. It is indeed very nice to have them around. Too bad the weather is mostly overcast and the light is scarce, making it difficult to photograph them.

    Golden eagles, adult and juvenile

The young eagle is still relying on her parents for feeding her after fledgling. Here she is circling close to her mom and is begging her for food.
