    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

A few shots with the R7 and the 200-800. Some portraits of a fence-jumper on Sunday in good light and one today of a grasshopper warbler skulking in a bush in dull weather. The first four mandarin shot were all at 800mm and the fifth was taken with the 1.4x converter (1120mm), The sixth shot...

    How do you pronounce Leica

Why the sneering? I just asked a genuine question, explained in the best way I could, not any attempt at one-upmanship.

    Cetaceans, Goa

I'm adding these photos just for comparison, because they clearly aren't the same species. One morning in January 2015 I went onto the beach simply to use it as a convenient means to walk to some birdy habitat about a mile from our hotel (Candolim). Unusually, there was no ocean swell coming...

    How do you pronounce Leica

Not so much pronunciation of vowel sounds (as in Lie-ca), but more something I've noticed in many YouTube videos by American photographers, such as Tony Northrup and many more. When they are discussing teleconverters in particular, but also elsewhere, they seem to confuse a mathematical symbol...

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

200-800 on the R5 in cloudy weather. ISO 1250 at the harbour, 2500 for the geese & 3200 for the pigeon. The lens plays better with the R5 than the R7, with better focus acquisition & stickiness.

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

Out with the 200-800 on the R7 on a rare sunny day, 29th March, for a couple of strangers from origin unknown, and a few of the locals.

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

I've not been able to get out nearly as much as I'd have liked with this lens (crap weather), but yesterday, taking a break from decorating, and just for a few minutes, without leaving the room, I fastened the 1.4 converter onto it for the first time in daylight and fixed the combo onto my R7...

I've got a Canon R7 and need to update my lenses

I've got the 24-105 and I use it as a general lens on my R5 and it's good for that, but I'd say it's pretty much useless for birds, even on my R7. Much too short.

Canon R1 Rumours on new R1

Has the box design been announced? Anyone got a box pic yet?

Plans to reintroduce Golden Eagles to England and Wales?

We used to see them regularly just into Northumberland at the top end of Kielder Reservoir, on Deadwater Fell. There was a pair there that bred not far into Scotland. Sadly, one went missing, then a couple of years later the other one went too. It's getting on for 20 years since I saw a golden...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

South of 25 quid on Amazon, enough to do the 100-500, plus the 200-800.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

How does it cope with the zoom extension?

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

When I bought my 100-500 in April 2021, I don't think there were any lens coats available off the shelf - the lens was just too new. Since then, there are several manufacturers making them, but I still rely on the solution I found three years ago. On YouTube, there's a bloke called Ron Bulefeld...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I'm just here again because I saw the thread had popped up as one of the latest threads on the right-hand side of my screen and I had a look through it for 'old times sake', going back to before I last posted here in July 2023. Reading all of the posts, yes all of them, from then I got to...
