What's next for Zen-Ray: your input.

I see a lot of ideas I like here but my favorites are: A 50mm EDII series. Probably 8.5 and 10 power. A decent 28mm in 6.5 or 7 power with enough eye-relief to work well with glasses. It would need to have better stray light protection than does the Vortex 8X28 Hurricane. 7X42 ZRS.

Zen 7x36 out in the field.

I guess I should add my two cents to this discussion since I have had a good bit of field experience with the 7X36 ED2 lately, including a seven day safari in Tanzania where it was in nearly continuous use for about eight hours a day. It looks like the biggest complaint about the ED2 is the...

Can you compare the 8x30 Conquests with the Jena's?

I have never used a Conquest, but I have a multi-coated 8X30 CZJ Deltrintem that I like to use occasionally. It is a joy to handle with its light weight and slim prism housings. It has a nice big field of view (8.5° or so), very good sharpness in the center, and is nearly as bright as more...

    Swift Ultra Lite 760

I assume you mean the 1990s 7X42 Porro. I have one stored somewhere. It is very bright and sharp, light weight, smooth focus, etc. but it has some stray light problems and the field of view is closer to 6.5 deg. than to the advertised 7.1. I could not use it because of the tiny apparent...

    Vortex Fury 6,5x32

I should not have said that the ZEN is better for serious birding, because for serious warblering the Fury is much better than the ZEN or anything else for me. The ZEN is better at long range and in conditions that accentuate CA. Stray light is not a problem with the improved ED2. I would put...

Need help choosing (please share advice!)

Many of the regulars on this forum could give you a better explanation of dielectric prism coatings than I can, but as they haven't, I'll give it a brief and not very comprehensive shot. When light travels through a Schmidt-Pechan prism set, it strikes three of the six reflecting surfaces at an...

    Vortex Fury 6,5x32

Yes, Steve is right. The Fury can’t compete with the ZEN in sharpness or brightness. It is also inferior to the 7X36 Eaglet in these areas. But I still think that it beats everything I have tried for ease of use because the eye-relief and focus speed and feel are perfect for me. I always...

    Nikon ProStaff

I had an 8X26 Vanquish for a while but never really liked it. It had some serious issues with stray light. Not only did it have significant veiling glare, it had a wild assortment of bright spots and lines when looking in the general direction of a bright light source. The view was sharp and...

Nikon Action EX 7x35 vs. Zen Ray 7x36 ED2

I wholeheartedly agree. Sometimes ease of use can be more important than optical perfection. I have used many 6X to 7X binoculars and most are easy and pleasant to use, but the Fury is in a class by itself. The eye-relief is perfect for me. The focus is smooth and fast, but not too fast, and...

    weird focus

Galih, I guess you could cover one objective lens and try focusing from both directions. This would eliminate any difference between the two barrels on your binoculars. If you can get a better focus coming from far to near than going from near to far, that must be the what your eyes/brain...

    weird focus

Gwsudiro, I wonder if you might have more backlash in the focusing mechanism in one barrel than in the other. I recently bought a new pair of binoculars that had a severe case of this. When the diopter was set correctly for focusing in the clockwise direction, both barrels would come into...

    10X advice needed

My name is Bill and I’m a bincuholic. I am new to this forum, having joined just a few days ago. So here is my problem: I have not bought any binoculars in over three months! I need a fix! I mostly use 6.5 and 7X binos but I’m thinking of trying another 10X. I have tried four so far and...

Are the Papilio's only for close up work

I have the 6.5X version but seldom use it for birding. It seems to be well made, having a smooth focusing mechanism and a sharp image. However, in anything but full daylight it seems very dim compared to any of my larger binoculars. The small exit pupil doesn’t allow the “easy view” you get...
