R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

That's an interesting point that I never noticed and which can only really be regarded as a design flaw. There is nowhere on the lens to attach a strap. I've just been carrying it by the camera strap thus far. How are people attaching a strap to the lens?

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

I was wondering if the supply issues with this lens have been sorted yet. That'll be a no, then.

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

Yes I agree with all you say here. Heat haze (to use what is clearly the incorrect term) is an absolute scourge. I'm happy with the 100-500 for flight shots, I wouldn't really be looking at the 200-800 for that, just for the extra reach at the 600-800mm end for stationary birds. Maybe I should...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Can I ask what cards people are using for the R7? I bought a couple of 256GB cards which write at 160MB/s and they are proving totally inadequate when using the electronic shutter. I get a couple of seconds of burst and then have to wait over 30 seconds for the buffer to empty.

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

Thanks. So far I've just got the R7 and 100-500 and I'm liking it but obviously the area where it is a bit lacking is reach. Just wondering how would be best to solve that problem...

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

I was thinking of what it would be like more for things like terns on a beach or divers on the sea rather than Bullfinches and Siskins. If it doesn't work well with the converter then it won't really offer much of an advantage over the 100-500 + 1.4xTC but if you can get good shots at 1,792mm...

    Canon RF 200-800mm IS USM

I was wondering about this. It'd be interesting to see how it performs on birds at 600-800mm + 1.4x.

    Lens repair

Yes that's the problem, none of the main repairers are interested because they know they won't be able to get spares. But the spares must be out there somewhere I would think, it's just whether I can find anyone willing to give it a go. I might end up selling it for spares on ebay and putting...

    Lens repair

Already tried them and it was Wes who replied to me in fact. The reply was no can do I'm afraid! I've tried various places that I've found on Google, I've found a couple of places who said they will take a look but can't promise anything, unfortunately not that close (one in Cambridge and one in...

    Lens repair

Thanks, I will e-mail them. I did try the Lens Doctor but got no reply and the website seems to have disappeared. As you say it does look like he's ceased trading.

    Lens repair

Yes, Fixation won't take it. Not sure if its the age or the size of the lens with them, but when you put the details into their repair request form it says they can't do it.

    Lens repair

Bit of a long shot this but I'm struggling. I've got an old Canon 600mm F4 lens from the early 2000s (so mark 1 I guess) which has developed a focusing fault. Does anyone know of someone who might be able to repair it? Most places I've tried (including Canon) don't want to know because of its age.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Hi Steve, earlier on in this thread I notice you were less complimentary about the R7 than some others have been - has your opinion changed over the past few months?

    Birds in flight (again)

Many thanks for taking the time to write this detailed reply and as someone who has experience of the effects caused by strokes (not to me, thankfully) I wish you good health.
