Eagle or Vulture or ??? Eugene, Oregon USA 2022/06/14

Saw this bird soaring overhead a couple of times before flying away. At first I considered Bald Eagle (they're fairly common here) but the head looked too small, plus I thought I saw some rufous coloring along the back. Any help is appreciated!

Help with hummingbird - Las Vegas, NV

Unfortunately this is the only view I got. Brightened photo and increased contrast. I'm familiar with Anna's, but this one just didn't look "Anna's like" to me. Gorget was definitely red.

Say's Phoebe or Vermilion Flycatcher? (Orange County (Southern California) CA)

I'm on the fence on this one. While Say's Phoebe is much more common, a Vermillion Flycatchers have been seen here regularly, as recently as as this month. Thank you in advance.

    Why 8x32 are replacing 8x42

When I'm in sunny Los Angeles California I have my 8x32. When I'm in the grey skies of Eugene Oregon my go to is my 7x42. Both Meopta Meostar B1s; I love the little tanks.

    No more tiny 8X20!!

I agree with Bencw. I've also gone through various 8X20s, including the supposed best (Leica Ultravid), and just find them too fidgety to use comfortably. (I use glasses.) I have since settled on the Terra 8x25 and found them much nicer to use than the 8x20s: a nice enough middle ground between...

Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 vs. Swarovski CL Pocket Mountain 8x25 vs. Zeiss Victory 8x25

I wanted to follow-up on my post. Over the past 5 years I've gone through the following "compacts" trying to find an ideal one: Elite Custom Compact 7x26 (loved it the most, but too big in its case and not waterproof) Nikon Monarch 8x30 (2nd favorite, but again, too big in its flimsy (seemingly...

Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 vs. Swarovski CL Pocket Mountain 8x25 vs. Zeiss Victory 8x25

Thank you all again for your input and insights, especially Theo98 for the case dimensions! I've decided to order the Terras.

Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 vs. Swarovski CL Pocket Mountain 8x25 vs. Zeiss Victory 8x25

Thank you all for the reports so far. Troubadour, your reviews are always a pleasure to read, so I'll be looking out for your review. As far as the 3x the price, I am understanding about diminishing "bang for the buck" returns the more you spend / realize that the Terra is more "my money's...

Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 vs. Swarovski CL Pocket Mountain 8x25 vs. Zeiss Victory 8x25

Like many of us here, I'm in a never ending quest for the perfect binocular. I need help deciding between these. I wear glasses and am leaning towards the Swarovski, but want second opinions. Most important is compactness WHEN IN A CASE (these will most often be in my backpack that I take on the...

Southern California - Long Beach/Los Angeles Warbler Help

Saw this guy earlier this morning. Assumed at first it was a pale fall Yellow-rumped Warbler given it's ubiquity locally, but it didn't "look right." On closer observation noticed yellow undertail coverts, pronounced supercilium, and preferred moving along the ground. Most obvious was very...

    Binocular pocket of good quality?

Incidentally the Jan/Feb issue of Bird Watcher's Digest compared pocket binoculars. Tops in their high-end category were the Zeiss Victory and Swarovski CL's (tied), mid-priced Zeiss Terra ED Pocket, and low-end Vanguard Orros...
