Zeiss SFL 8x40, A Field Review

Nice review Troubador! Sounds like Zeiss has a field of winners with the Conquest HD, SFL, and SF. CG

    I screwed up…

Hi, I was likely in your shoes 20 years ago. Wanted a pair of EL's in the worst way, but the price tag was too high for my budget. Soon after I found out I had a baby on the way: I told myself if not now, then likely never. Went from inexpensive binoculars to top end binoculars (purchased...

    Swarovski sellers dilusional?

I have sold an EL 10x32, and an EL 8x32, and another EL 8X32, and a Z3 rifle scope. One of the EL 8x32 went during the mortgage banking crises so it went for cheap in like new condition. The 10x32 was used for about a decade, was in good condition as I take care of my sh@t. My cost per year...

    Swarovski sellers dilusional?

Think I've sold as low as 60% of retail for an excellent condition binocular (almost no use - so like me taking the product out of the package and looking thru it a couple of times in the backyard and putting it back in the package). Not so eager to buy and try anymore so I don't do this as...

Why Does Zeiss Still Use 42mm HTs in their Marketing?

8x42 HT was on my shortlist of "ones to try" then became unavailable. Saved me a bunch of money!

Tale of 8x32s ~ an enthusiast's celebratory exclamation

Not certain if I'll let myself purchase another binocular ... but these are the two at the top of the list if I get around to it. The battle is between the compact size of the Leica (something that is significantly important to me and how I use binoculars) and the wide field of view of the...

    I always regret selling my.......?

Think I regret not getting the opportunity with a Nikon EDG 8x32 and a Zeiss HT 8x42 more than anything I have let go.

    Pick One ALPHA 8x42

Can a Zeiss SF 8x32 be considered as a compact 8x42?

If you could have only ONE binocular ? (no list).

I see I posted 7x back in 2013. Things have changed since then and so have I... I am now going with 8x32 (mid grade or better optics and build). Anyone care to guess how many times Dennis has changed his mind in nine years? CG

What are your favorite birding binoculars at three different price points?

Completely understand ... exactly what happens to me with x25 binoculars.

What are your favorite birding binoculars at three different price points?

Dennis, I have not been fond of anything Nikon since EDG, HGL, SE, and E2; but in all fairness I haven’t had opportunity with everything Nikon’s produced since these models. I mostly carry much and use some; I find the x30 best for this. I’d say 90% of my binocular time is behind x30 because...

What are your favorite birding binoculars at three different price points?

    These work for me! I'm certain they won't work for everybody... $500 Price Point (over $500/less than $1000) 1) Maven B3 8x30 2) Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 $1000 Price Point (over $1000/less than $2000) 1) Swarovski CL Companion 8x30 $2000+ Price Point 1) Swarovski EL 8.5x32 2) Leica UVHD+ 7x42...

    new binocular wishes for 2022

Here's wishing that the Holy Grail of binoculars pushes out yet another year ... giving this forum and its parade of binocular nuts and characters another 365 days of continued antics, analyses, and banter. Best, CG

I tried a slug of $1K roof-prism binoculars and I think the Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32 is still the best for the money!

I purchased an 8x32 Conquest HD in August of 2013. They came with these things for objective covers (see pic). Obviously by the way I worded that sentence you should know I don't think too highly of them. Did this change somewhere over the years, or are they still the same? FWIW, I still own...

I'm in this camp. Sometimes you just feel things or know intuitively, and are unable to mentally explain. You might figure it out in time and other times you don't. It is also referred to as "trusting your gut". Works for me 99.9% of the time. I wonder if all of us are blessed with this...
