Name a bird for each letter of the alphabet-

L - Lapwing An abiding memory from growing up near the Somerset Levels was going for an explore down by the river and coming across a couple of breeding Lapwings on territory with their swooping display flights and unearthly pee-wit calls.

They are about ... but well camouflaged! I've only seen 5 - one on the back door when we lived in Falmouth, the other 4 in three separate places after cutting bramble and they appeared out of the cut material. Not tried active searching.

Still a struggle to see butterflies, although just about daily Peacock in the garden or elsewhere now. Two Holly Blues in town a week ago whilst waiting in the Health Centre car park, and a newly hatched stick insect sp. in the car 2 days ago (I'd been clearing brambles from the garden).

    The 10% Club - Milestones

I'm having trouble not reading the title as a jumbled-up version of the 10 mile high club ... ;-) Sorry! On a more serious note I'm probably in the 5%+ camp. Haven't given any other milestones any thought, but should do perhaps ... Because splits and losses etc will always happen, is it better...

Name a bird for each letter of the alphabet-

E - Eurasian Whimbrel The only 'rarity' I've found in the USA - was over on holiday with my partner back in 2008, traveling back to NY for our flight checked out some wetlands between there and New Jersey where we had been staying - big flock of Whimbrel (like literally thousands) flying over...

    First Butterflies 2024

Only seen two butterflies in the last few weeks - a Red Admiral briefly in the front garden, and then today, whilst on the phone I happened to look out the bedroom window and a small brownish butterfly in the wind - fortunately it landed about 6 feet away - a nice fresh Speckled Wood.
