R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

I use a peak design strap. The PD plate is attached to the lens's tripod foot.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Hi Another general question on the R7 and 100-500 combination. How do people carry it? I use a Peak Design sling strap with the PD plate attached to the lens's tripod foot. However, I would like to dispense with the tripod collar to reduce weight/bulk and was thinking of connecting the strap to...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Thanks It was an Outdoor photography cover which I had problems with on a Sony lens but it is good to know the Canon fits better.

Thanks for that reply. An interesting option which I was not aware of. It looks relatively inexpensive too.

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Apologies for deviating from the thread’s topic but can anybody recommend a good lens cover for the 100-500mm. I’ve had a neoprene cover on a Sony lens in the past and it never fitted particularly well, particularly around the switches. The Rolanpro seems to get reasonable reviews but I was...

    Skipper I.D. Cheshire

Thanks. I wasn’t sure in the second photo whether the left hand antenna showed some brown on the underside. I should have said in my original post it is a rare but spreading species in Cheshire.

    Skipper I.D. Cheshire

Hi Can anybody confirm the i.d. of this skipper? Based on the first photo I thought it might be an Essex but looking more closely at the second photo I think it is just a Small. Thanks David

Thanks for your help, I hadn’t appreciated it wasn’t your camera. It’s the line just above the subject tracking option I was referring to. On my R7 it displays the chosen AF area. I’m not sure why it is different on your friend’s R7. Cheers David

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

Thanks Evan. I notice your screen doesn't show the AF area which is different to how the menu appears on my R7. Mine shows the focus area : spot, single point, whole, etc

Evan Great pictures! I was struggling to photograph/focus on Sand Martins only yesterday! What focus zone were you using, Whole Area AF? Also were you using tracking and eye detection? There are times when I've thought both have slowed down the AF and I am better off just using subject animal...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

You're posting some great pictures showing the capabilities of the R7 and 100-500. They are tempting me to upgrade from the RF100-400! Apologies if you have posted this earlier in the thread but what focus mode are you using for BIF? Particularly impressed with your Little Swift pictures. I...

R7 Viewfinder focus point keeps randomly sticking

On my R7, depressing the joystick returns the focus to the centre. I’m pretty sure this was the default setting as I can’t remember setting it up this way.

Thanks for your reply. Do you see this effect in the live image as well as when reviewing/replay images?

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

I'm generally very pleased with the AF performance of my R7 coupled with the RF100-400mm. One issue I'm struggling to understand though is the accuracy/position of the focus box. When I use eye AF and track a BIF the focus box can wander off the bird onto the background but the bird stays in...
