Self-evidently the focuser issues are a hit-and-miss seemingly on every Alpha brand. I've had a very nice 2007 era EL focuser and one not so great. Leica seems a bit more consistent, but a sample size of 1 or 3 means absolutely nothing. The fact I got what I got does not extrapolate to the rest... -

Because mine was beginning to look like this, in the early stages. Cracks everywhere. I am sending it in for a total armor replacement and I hope it's the same disposable stuff. EL 10x42 casing deterioration. -

I get kind of a blackout when I press the eyecups into my face as a I have a tendency to do. I didn't measure the ER just saying it's fine and that the eyecups do not fit the ER distance correctly. It needs about 2 more clicks or about 2-3mm of height. I tried using eyeglasses with it and it's... -

Who says the EL 50 is too heavy?
I used Zeiss 10x54 HT for a few years. Then I got 12x50 EL and thought how compact and light it was. -

There is also the the interesting option of 8x56. If you like 8x but want the most light-gathering objective possible. Or 8x50 to keep it relatively light. -

Yep. I got a Zeiss 10x54 and Swaro 12x50 EL -- and they present a dilemma. I like nature viewing but also night sky. The Zeiss is brighter under all circumstances, the image is steadier but the extra 2x of the 12x opens up a whole other dimension in the night sky. Lots of things you see that... -

I understand the point. If I send it right now, they will fix it using the same worthless armor as the one I already have and it will be back in 2 years. Or send it to them and instruct them not to fix it until they come up with a real fix. -

My EL 12x50 is disintegrating in the same fashion, using duct tape temporarily. I am not going to send it in until they come up with a new formula as it would be pointless to replace it with the same self-destructing material. If they do not fix it soon, they will get kicked out from the Alpha... -

Right. My 2007 era EL 8.5x42 looked mint after 10 years. Even despite being dropped once, hard. Put it on a car roof and drove off. It slammed on the road. I realized what happened a nanosecond later and that was the quickest U-turn I ever did. It was in a durable case so that helped, even...
