    Carrion or Raven?

The bill does look large on the second pic but I still think it's CC. Look at the thumbnail in the post and imagine seeing this at distance in the field.....just doesn't have the presence of Raven IMO

    Carrion or Raven?

I would have said Carrion Crow as it looks a bit too neat to be a Raven, angle tricky for bill and tail but I'm no expert!

6.5x32 BD II vs RSPB 6.5x32 HD

I have managed to compare the Kowa and RSPB 6.5x32 bins, here are some very brief observations. Field of view on the Kowa is better leading to a larger AFOV which makes the image more immersive. The brightness is also better on the Kowa and the colours seem more neutral. However there is an...

6.5x32 BD II vs RSPB 6.5x32 HD

I am very interested in the new Kowa 6.5x32 with its 10 degree FOV. I own a pair of RSPB 6.5x32 HD which are really great but quite fussy on eye placement. Has anyone compared these 2 models for image quality and eye placement please? I find the RSPB to be very sharp almost to the edge but I've...

    Essex gull, UK

Just looked a bit too chesty and square headed to me, like I said I'm no expert though. Are primaries long enough for common?

    Essex gull, UK

I saw this gull this evening at long range in fading light. My first impression was too dark for herring so maybe yellow-legged, however a friend has pointed out it doesn't look that big.... Common gull is the obvious species but overall structure/bill just doesn't look right to me although...

    Cheap fat ball advice

Thanks for the reply, I bought mine from Pets at Home so I reckon they're the same as they did a 50 tub too.

    Cheap fat ball advice

I usually spend £30-40 per month on bird food but finances have been a bit tough recently so I am trying to make some cuts so I've purchased a tub of 150 fat balls made by Dawn Chorus which were only £10. They look a bit dry and have a strong smell to them but the birds seem to absolutely love...

    Advice on binoculars

I think you would find the Kowa 8x30YF hard to beat. Porro's will always give you a better image than a roof at the lower price ranges.

There have been at least 2 cuckoo recorded already in east of England this year. Sounds good from the description.
