    54 species of birds so far this year with the highlights being a Great White Egret, 3 Little Egrets, 6 Shoveler, 12 Goosander, Water Rail, 1 Woodcock, Kingfisher and 50 Siskin. Ring-necked Parakeet numbers have really increased from 6 (2/1/23) to 700+ this year!

    Todays news from Blithe and Tad Bays- 2 Pintail, 3 Great Egret, 3 Ruff, 1 Snipe, 1 Curlew, 2 Common Sand, 1 Turnstone, 3 Oystercatcher and a few LRP and Ringed Plover.

    The wader season has started with 9 species seen in the last 2 days, Oystercatchers, Little Ringed Plovers, Ringed Plovers, Lapwings, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Redshank, 1 Greenshank, 2 Green Sandpiper and 14 Common Sandpiper.

    At least 2 gulls were on their last legs at the flashes today, the water didn't seem very clean, perhaps worth checking? The gulls at the Moors seemed much more healthy.

    RSPB Middleton Lakes

    First visit of the year and 49 species were seen, quiet but highlights included 1 Hooded Merganser, 2 Little Egret, 1 Gt White Egret, 1 Water Rail, 27 Golden Plover and a Chiffchaff. Best part was finding a pub has been opened at the courtyard Middleton Hall with a nice selection of bottled...

    New years day visit and managed 40 species which is more than I was expecting, highlights 2 Shoveler, 1 Teal, 6 Goosander, 1 Little Egret, 1 Buzzard, 1 Gt spotted Woodie, 6 Ring-necked Parakeet, 1 Jay, 1 Chiffchaff and a Grey Wagtail.

    Blithfield Reservoir.

    Morning visit with binos only as I forgot to take my scope, couldn't find the White-fronted Goose but 1 Barnacle Goose, 1 Ross's Goose, 2 Egyptian Geese, 1 Pintail, 1 Gt Egret, 1 Common Sand and Gt spotted Woodie drumming. 38 species in total.

    Recent highlights include 7 Teal, 2 Shoveler, 9 Pochard, 6 Goosander, 32 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 6 Little Grebe, 1 Water Rail, 1 Snipe, 1 Woodcock, 6 Ring-necked Parakeet, 2 Raven, 3 Goldcrest and a Grey Wagtail. Pumphouse Pool is ice free but the other pools are mostly frozen.

    Yesterday I found the best place to see the Bearded Tit was from the East Hide, it was right of the concrete hide and not viewable from that hide or the West Hide as the bushes got in the way. If looking from the west side then the gap in the hedge would likely give the best chance of seeing it...

    A total of 14 wader species from Blithe and Tad Bay this afternoon included 6 Oystercatcher, 1 LRP, 4 Ringed Plover, 1 Knot, 3 Sanderling, 17 Dunlin, 4 Snipe, 3 Blackwit, 1 Curlew, 4 Redshank, 3 Greenshank, 4 Common Sand and 1 Turnstone.

    I only did Tad Bay today, 1 Mandarin Duck, a few Oystercatcher, 3 LRP, 1 Dunlin, 10 Blackwit, 1 Curlew and 5 Common Sand.
