    Vanuatu megapode

This bird hadn’t been documented by scientists since 1882. Then they captured video of it in Papua New Guinea Hope Kate hasn't seen this or she'll be assembling a documentary crew to film her making scrambled eggs on PNG

    Vanuatu megapode

Yes it's traditional, as is hunting game in Africa, but I would still be surprised to see David Attenborough flying over to Kenya to bag an elephant. It doesn't really have anything to do with Chris Packham other than he's an outspoken environmentalist and birder and Kate Humble is/was his...

    Vanuatu megapode

    Vanuatu megapode

Haven't been on here a while, like the new look! And have forgotten what sort of discussions are acceptable, so mod please remove this post if it's not okay, really not trying to lower the tone. But…! Anyone know anything about the Vanuatu megapode / Scrubfowl (Megapodius layardi) ? From what...

    Borneo Birding and Wildlife

I'd love to do this - Borneo high on my wish list, but can't face the extra hassle of covid right now. Usually go solo joining with others to lower costs where possible.

    Cranes SE France

Richard, Here's a screenshot from vid of the last flock we watched going over, which I reckon has 5 or 600 birds in it. If you turned your head to the right towards Cannes there would have been similar flocks out in the distance and to the east same disappearing, so if they're there you really...

    Cranes SE France

Huge amount of common cranes flying past Nice Monaco today. We saw several thousand coming in strings of hundreds over an hour or two period. Some out at sea some over the mountains catching thermals. Didn’t think they came this way. All the walkers looking up to see what was going on

    Birdsong, SE France 800m trees

Wow amazing! The place seemed full of them - is that possible or am I confusing various birds? We were so captivated I made my first iPhone recording! Will go back now as I have never seen one…

    Birdsong, SE France 800m trees

Any help with any of these birds from today - first day of unlockdown in France - much appreciated. There's one in particular in foreground, which seemed pretty common - every 30m or so on a path. Very loud, clear, varied song with bursts of 3 notes. Then there's another one in background...

Dead / stunned bird SE France Chiffchaff?

Thanks guys. Yes a real shame. In fact I'm not sure I've ever knowingly seen a wood warbler before, certainly not in the city. I feel like I may have made the wrong decision not to bring him home, but it was a spur of the moment thing, I live in a flat in the city, no mealworms, and am only...

Dead / stunned bird SE France Chiffchaff?

Found this poor guy in the middle of street belly up. Assumed he was dead but seemed warm. Cause unknown, cat, car, window, illness, old age, who knows. I picked him and there was no reaction so put on a wall and now his eyelids opened so he looked alive but I'm not sure he was. After photos for...

    Little Crake, SE France, April

Thanks! It's a good year for crakes here apparently. Others have also seen Spotted (also would be lifer for me) in same location so I'm going to be going back, fingers crossed…
