Finch showing his red back feathers

I don't usually see the red lower back feathers on these guys. I have several that visit the back yard feeder. This guy is also one that has a splash of yellow in his crest which is more obvious on a few other photos. ISO 400 - 1/1000 @ f5.6 Spot Metering

Great shot with the tail action. Captured at just the right moment. Great detail, contrast and exposure. Nice work.

Thank you so much for the kind replies. I got this capture with a canon 7D (just struggling to learn that camera body) and my trusty old (20 year old) 300mm F4.0L Non-IS. Credit for this image has to go that awesome lens. Regards George E Smith

Female Cardinal Just After Leaving Her Nest

This is a part of a pair that is nesting just outside my office window this spring. It means I'm within a few feet of them through the window and just a couple more out on my deck which ajoins the office. 4 chicks are alive and feeding voraciously now on the 5th day since they hatched.

Winter wren? This is a very small songbird no larger than the size of my fist. I can't seem to find it in my field guide. Thanks in advance. Regards George Smith

This could be a juvenile robbin? I'm not sure. Any opinions?

Never have seen this one either. Help from all the great people around here please! Note the fly he is eating in the first images. http://www.psscript.com/MM/HF/20060904GFC_1132_800.JPG http://www.psscript.com/MM/HF/20060904GFC_1135_800.JPG...

I'm back with another small woodland bird that I have not seen about here before. The images are just so so as this little guy was a real mover never staying in one spot even a second at a time. So, what is this bird? http://www.psscript.com/MM/HF/20060904WhoK_1040_800.JPG...

Close (15 feet or so) well lit and ok pose. One of my best male cardinal captures. This is barely cropped, nearly full frame
