    Honey buzzards

Understood! I have to say that we heard them last year as well, and they did seem to be pretty static, somewhere at the top of the crags.

    Honey buzzards

I don't think that still photos will solve the issue! So I have a 40x optical zoom camcorder at the ready for when they next appear and weather permits.

    Honey buzzards

Absolutely no huff taken. Just trying to be helpful, and informative.

    Honey buzzards

Drive into the centre of Callander and turn left into the Meadows car park Just past the A81 turning.. The crags are the high, extremely impressive wooded hills, to the north of town.

    Honey buzzards

I invariably hear them before I see them. They are larger than common buzzards with wider wings. Usually a pair but often a trio. Not there at the moment, but I'll keep an eye out.

    Honey buzzards

Sorry! Was busy elsewhere! I live at the foot of the crags and see them frequently from my back garden, usually accompanied by two exuberant chihuahuas!

    Honey buzzards

2.15pm. 29th July If anyones interested, and in the area. There are two of them hovering over the crags at this very moment!

    Honey buzzards

These are definitely NOTCommon Buzzards which are even more frequent over the crags. And with a totally different call! I checked the RSPB website for a Honey buzzard call. And it matched perfectly. Like I said previously. I will try to get them on video, if possible. And, by the way. The...

    Honey buzzards

I'll try to get a video, with their call sounds.

    Honey buzzards

After carefully checking their call sounds, I'm happy to confirm that there have been at least 3 honey buzzards hovering over the crags here in Callander for most of the past week!

    The silence here is deafening!

Where have all of the birds gone? Here in Callander, there is an eerie silence in the air! Just the occasional Collared dove or Jackdaw. No finches, warblers or thrushes. Going out for walks is definitely no fun atm!

    Golden Eagles over Callander

Well! It was always on my 'bucket list' to see a Golden eagle But I never ever imagined that I would see one (actually two) from my own back garden! On three occasions now, we have seen a pair of them, hovering over the crags here in Callander! We also frequently see Buzzards and the size...

    Er....Hello again.

Back in again after another rather prolonged absence. I was out in the back garden a short while ago on puppy duties, and what should I hear but my first Skylark for well over 30 years! They seemed to have disappeared of the planet completely! And this was a very welcome surprise.

    Reeves Pheasant in Scotland

So typical! I wasn't even out birding. But driving along the road this afternoon beside the shores of 'Lake of Menteith, near the Inchmahome Priory, not far from Aberfoyle. A male Reeves Pheasant strolling along the roadside before disappearing into the woods. I'd never seen anything like it...

    aWEEP aWEEP bird - Scotland

Yes I concur with Oyster Catchers. A species that seems to be slowly moving to inland habitats. A bit like the Cormorant. We have a pair, here in Callander that appear to have settled permanently on the meadows beside the river, right in the centre of town. They can be heard any time, day and night.
