With the Southern Migrant Hawker having and excellent season in Southern England and not that much information readily available for the identification of their exuviae, I have produced a number of plates comparing the Migrant and Southern Migrant Hawker which will hopefully be of use to other...

Ever Seen a Banded Demoiselle Emerging? Having tried to rear a few nymphs over the past few years without success, I have tried again this year where I have gone a few steps further by making a long thin glass tank to replicate a small stream. I have added pumps, river water, weed, natural...

    Dragonfly ID (Grafham Water, UK)

These photos are all clearly Common Darter, the pale stripes on the legs showing off well. I assume and think you mention this is a different individual to those posted earlier as the wing damage suggests a different. individual. Females of the Ruddy will not show the classic waisted abdomen of...

    Dragonfly ID (Grafham Water, UK)

Initially I thought it was Common Darter when I opened up the image, the more I look, I see features for Ruddy Darter coming through. She appears to show the black 'T' shape on the thorax as well as all dark legs which point towards Ruddy. I may be going mad but thought I would share my opinion...
