Birds flying in upside down position

I've seen Common Raven doing this in play or perhaps in order to impress the partner.

What's the rarest bird you've had in your garden?

Nightjar. Firecrest and Spotted Flycatcher as breeding birds. Hundreds, sometimes thousands of overflying Cranes each year. Steve

Light weight binos for raptor watching

Personally, I wouldn't worry about that very much. Have you ever seen how professional photographers use to treat their cameras and lenses? Their gear has to perform a lot of heavy duty all day long and they don't mind much about it. Anyway, if you prefer classical optics I would opt for the...

    Meopta Forum ?

I'd really like to know where they are made now. Did you notice any "Made in ..." infos, preferably at the tripod foot or at the box?

Light weight binos for raptor watching

Andrea, for raptor watching it is essential to have CA and veiling glare at a minimum. The Canon 10x42 IS does come up with this but has an additional plus that makes it unbeatable for your purpose, that is image stabilisation. Steve

    Meopta Forum ?

Cabela is a supplier for hunting gear. I don't think it would be a good idea to name a subforum of BF, which is dedicated to wild birds, after a hunting site. Steve

    Meopta Forum ?

The earlier Zeiss spotters were pretty notorious regarding sample variation. At that time I wondered if Zeiss does pay enough for Meopta or if at Meopta they simply had some serious issues with quality controll.

    New Swarovski SLC 42 Binoculars

Brock, I know what you mean and can feel a small difference of resistance too, when turning the focusing wheel of most Swaro bins in one direction or the other but this never did bother me in practical use. When I put an ear directly to some Swaro bins while focusing I was even able to hear the...

    Zeiss Hungary

The fact that the old style (silver ones with black rubber applications) Diascopes were made by Meopta is pretty old stuff for the regular reader here on BF. The question is where the new version with complete black armor is actually produced. Do we have anyone here who could take a look at any...

    Zeiss Hungary

AFAIK the pocket bins are still in production there. Perhaps also the spotting scopes? Steve

Meopta amazing test results! German magazine

I'm afraid I can't follow you here because in the test chart there's no mentioning of HD. It could well be that the mentioning in the German text is just a typo or an error. AFAIK so far there is still no 8x42 Meopta Meostar B1 HD available at the German or even European market and the test was...

Meopta amazing test results! German magazine

While fanboyism use to cause the most superfluous contributions in the optics-forums here, surreptitious advertising is more than just a pain in the axx. What is your relationship to Meopta?

Brief encounter with the Kite Lynx HD 8x30

Frank, Gijs, I think there is some truth in both of your assumptions. Here is my analysis: http://www.birdforum.net/showpost.php?p=2891047&postcount=11 So I would advocate for spreaded offerings of OEMs like Kamakura just like the customer wants or needs. Of course it's hard to assess how the...

Meopta amazing test results! German magazine

Well, Mr. Raider, your politeness seems to be as impressive as your mindfulness. :-) What if someone don't want to use a 10x42? AFAIK only 10x42 HD is available in Europe but the test report was about 8x42 bins. Steve

Meopta amazing test results! German magazine

HD or not HD, if only Meopta could manage to provide natural colors, they would be considered to be essentially alpha.
