    Was: Great service from Zeiss

EDIT: I agree, and I just now finished sending an email to my contact there, asking, if this situation becomes intolerable, if they will readjust it under warranty. Yeah, I should edit my original posting to reflect my feelings about it. I am not in the mood to send it back to them right...

    Was: Great service from Zeiss

I erased my original post. See below. Howard

    Monarch M7+ 8x30

I'm confused. Didn't Nikon very recently replace the Monarch 7 (which I bought in 2015, the 8x30) with the M7? Now there's already an "M7+"? Can anyone elaborate on this? I'd be interested if there is an improvement on the improvement.

    Review of 8x25 Victory Pocket

Thank you to those who've recommended the Opticron objective covers L size, code # 31027 - 34mm outside diameter. I received mine today (from Amazon US), and they fit my Victory Pockets perfectly! I also have one of the Opticron rainguards (code # 31075, Medium diameter to 44 mm) for the...

My new Nikon Monarch HG 8x30, comparative study

Thank you for doing this comparison, as you've saved me a thousand US dollars! :D I have the Zeiss VP and the original Monarch 7 8x30. The Monarch is more than "suitable." I had been contemplating replacing the M7 with the HG, but it looks like my VP will continue to serve me well despite its...

Zeiss Victory 8x25 vs. Nikon Monarch 7 8x30?

I own both and use both. (I bought my M7 new in 2015.) Understand that the Zeiss is almost double the price of the new M7's. I bought the Zeiss for its take anywhere pocket-ability and great optics. In every aspect I find the Zeiss optically superior (including really crisp contrast). Despite...

50-55mm straight scope for 1.25” eyepieces

This will give you what you want, but in a slightly larger aperture 65mm. I have the 45-degree version. As an aside, should you want to first insert a diagonal for astro viewing, the light path may not be long enough. (It is not in my 45-degree version.) If you are interested in this Pentax...

    Review of 8x25 Victory Pocket

Well, I am sure you have all been waiting with bated (yes, bated, not baited) breath as to my status with these binoculars. I've had them for more than a week now, and I'm more than happy with them. My other "best" pair are Monarch 7 8x30's, which I've regarded as "pretty good." The Victory...

    Review of 8x25 Victory Pocket

Edmund, thank you. All that is helpful. I very much enjoy using my Monarch 7 8x30, and even my Pentax Porro 8x30's. (I have three of the Pentaxes!) Both are just 16 oz. But I have nothing compact enough to carry with me on a casual non-birding walk that will, say, fit in a coat pocket, or one I...

    Review of 8x25 Victory Pocket

Edmund, what do *you* mean by "tiring to use after more than a few seconds?" I'm very interested in this binocular (after reading some 400 posts!), and you're the biggest complainer (though very entertaining). ;) (Re: your post #370) Howard

binocular usability based on weight and lens size

I'm very surprised that none of my postings (from around 3 years ago) of this Pentax 8x30 never got any attention. I have three of them, and I find them all excellent for now only $99. I find them much better than the one Yosemite 8x30 sample I once tried. Those gave me a headache. The one...

    M7 8x30 loose armoring

I also own one of these 8 x 30's, so I read through this thread with considerable interest. (I know, just a month late.) I hope you get it/got the issue resolved. I will never again buy anything of "substance" from Amazon, as three times I've had used goods sent me. Did you notice whether or not...

Worst binocular purchasing decision I ever made

Well, thank you, John! I'm quite sure it was free. At that price it performed admirably.

Worst binocular purchasing decision I ever made

Here's something I posted on the usenet group sci.astro.amateur (and then to Cloudy Nights) in 2002: :-) You may have noticed that credit card statements now come with "free" offers for useless products, usually software that nobody wants, and for good reason. However, once in a while there is...

    Nikon Monarch 7 new 8x30 and 10x30

A minor correction to the model number. Many of you are writing "M7 II." Per the writing atop the focusing knob it says, "M711." As in "...seven come eleven down in the boy's gym - Charlie Brown...!"...
