    Yorkshire Birding

I'm starting to prefer St Aidens to Fairburn, although theres only one hide overlooking St Aidens. RSPB Blacktofts, YWT North Cave, Alkborough Flats and LWT Far Ings are all worth a drive east, but RSPB Old Moor and YWT Potteric Carr are closer to Heckhuddersfax.

    Yorkshire Birding

3 Waxwings this afternoon close by Headingley Rail station. Also flock (30+) of Fieldfare on Model Allotments, usually only get odd one or two.

    New computer - recommendations?

Irrespective of platform, I would recommend using two monitors if you have the space. Nearly all modern graphics cards will support this. My studio setup has two desktop computers, both have 19" and 28" monitors attached. The advantage is you can put all the tools on one screen and the work area...

    Sites for photography

Wheldrake Ings is south of York and not far from the A1 - water levels are very high at the moment but theres a lot of waterfowl on the reserve. RSPB Fairburn Ings and St Aidens are just off the Ferrybridge A1 / M62 junction. There are hides at Fairburn but not on st Aidens.

    Shutting down

To help diagnose the problem either check your system log, or turn off auto restart (link to instructions on HP website below) - this will display a error message when there is a problem rather than just restarting: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03413399

    Yorkshire Birding

For years had Greenfinches in the street, and early summer 4 males and 2 females more or less resident in tree we hang the birdfeeders in. Have not seen or heard any since mid August. No increase in Goldfinch here, steady numbers of around 15 or so month in month out hanging out in Burley Park...

    Yellow wagtails

Saw 1 bird for over fifteen minutes recently at Alkborough Flats, which are the other side of the river Trent from Blacktoft. In Wharfedale, at the other end of the scale so to speak, only once seen a Yellow Wagtail and that was for about 5 seconds! That was last June, on the Dales Way path just...

    Waxwings at Hodsock Priory

Visited Hodsock Priory (nr. Blyth, Worksop) today. At lunchtime, 7 Waxwings in a tree in the ornamental garden. There for the hour or so we walked around.

    Waxwings in Leeds

Waxwings every day this week on the allotment. Some days 'flighty', staying for 10 minutes then heading down towards Burley Station / Burley Green but usually returning within 10 to 20 minutes. Other days resident for hours, moving between the tree they are feeding in and small trees along St...

    Waxwings in Leeds

Well couldn't have been more wrong. 8 Waxwings, 10+ Bramblings, large flocks mixed finches and 6 Fieldfare. Plus 200+ Geese moving from direction of Eccup towards Horsforth.

    Waxwings in Leeds

I'm told there were 20+ on the Model Allotments (the ones between the rugby ground and Burley Road) on Sunday. And through last week several Bramblings as well. I'm going to my allotment this morning, but pessimistic about seeing much.

Uploading photo's from an IPhone into Birdforum

Hello Do you need to know how to get the photos off the iphone, or a way to resize them? Can help with both. Are you using a Windows, Apple or other computer for the uploads? HPD

    Red kites .

If you don't mind the walk from either Alwoodley Lane or (much longer) Golden Acre, then get to the end of Eccup Moor Road near Owlett Farm, just north of Eccup reservoir. There is a raptor viewing point down on the actual dam wall, but Kites tend to sit in the few trees at the end of the Road...

    Leeds owls

Nuthatches are common in the woods at Roundhay Park, but for guaranteed opportunities try the feeding point in Golden Acre park, and the Marsh Hide at YWT Adel Dam. Also chuffed that we've seen one a few times this autumn in the trees right outside our window in Burley.

    Yorkshire Birding

Himalaya- hello - did not know there were no records of RLB at Potteric so didn't mention it anywhere apart from here (and to a couple of birding mates). I'm going to email all details to [email protected]
