    I'd expect even a young male to show more black in the face. I'd call this a female. Aside: why do we feel the need to say "yes, it is that species that you thought it was" four times in a thread? Are we that attached to post counts?

    Are we sure it's not a young male? That last blurry photo seems to show black on the face. Otherwise, colours look better for female.

    I watched it on a phone, so the birds are pretty small. But every bird I did look at closely was a Turkey Vulture.

    The same reason my kid wouldn't inherit my large muscles if I took up weightlifting. The same reason a Jewish kid isn't born circumcised.

    You can beg to differ all you like, but your example, without a demonstration of heritability, is absolutely nothing like what the authors of the swallow paper are suggesting. Oh well. I'll drop it.

    I get it, but it's not really analogous at all. Unless there was evidence of heritability of that feature, there was no evidence of selection in the human/auk example.
