Better low ISO performance would be a start!

    Sensor cleaning.

I clean my sensor about once every 6-8 weeks. I use a rocket blower and a lens pen. Most of the time it works a treat, I reckon getting it "pro" cleaned with wetwipes or whatever is a swizz. In this country where we all shoot at f2.8 and f4 it has to be supremely dirty to be noticeable. In...

    Full frame query.

I think this discussion basically gets us to a place where the camera operator is the limiting factor and not the camera itself.

    Full frame query.

My comments were in reference to FF cameras that were not a 1DX. Ie if the 1DX were completely out of the question (as is the case for the vast majority), what would be next in line? As it is, the 1D4 does me just fine and I don't see a 1DX necessarily improving my output. And I am also sure I...

Anything anybody writes is an opinion. That's what makes life interesting. As for calling people's images junk.... well I see what you mean re subjectivity, but I've tried constructive criticism a few times and people just don't want to hear it. Possibly it's precisely because of subjectivity...

Without wishing to have this thread descend into yet another "all the gear" monologues, this is the reason why big twitches can be so farcical these days. Every T D & H has a massive bloody camera, and there's a massive scramble and often pathetic behaviour as they all want the money shot. That...

Best photographer I know uses a 1d3 and puts most people who use a 1dX to shame. It ain't all about the gear folks.

    Teleconverter compatibility

Don't even bother using ANY converter with the 55-250, you will not be happy with the results, those types of lenses are just not designed with TCs in mind. Jonathan

    Canon 1d mk111

I think the 1d3 focus issues only manifested themselves in certain uncommon situations, not as a matter of course. I'd look at MA in the first instance. Or of course technique, as lack of sharpness is mostly due to operator error.

Interesting lens with which to acquire basic skills!

    Grading Photos

Unless this is tongue in cheek, I'd respectfully suggest that this is the absolute minimum, and that it is far from job done. I recently spent some time thinking about my own decision-making process, and I came up with this which I attempted to illustrate what I meant. I still have heaps to...

7D vs 70D for Bird photography

I'd pick the venerable 1D2 over either of them, half the price, and in general many times more capable!

New 400/5.6 getting hard to acquire in places!

I don't think that any bird photographer who cares about IQ will give a rat's arse what the lens looks like on the outside or to the outside world. It's a tool, nothing more. I agree that the cost of the newest large lenses is prohibitively expensive, the older Mk I lenses represent far better...
