    UK Wild Pidgeon

Almost two years have elapsed since your question, and I'm sorry for not responding sooner, but I was hijacked by Facebook and politics. My friendly Pigeon (if that's who he is, and not an imposter) still sits on the kitchen door handle almost daily and looks in through the frosted glass...

    yellow legged gull attack

I witnessed a novel incident yesterday in my back garden, and not a pleasant one either. I'm used to seeing a pair of Jackdaws visiting regularly, to pick up peanuts in shells, along with other birds with similar tastes, such as Jays and Magpies, although they tend to avoid coming at the same...

    UK Wild Pidgeon

My garden has about 17 regular Pigeon scavengers daily, but only one of them tries to look in the back kitchen window, or through the frosted glass door, to see if what I'm doing may be to its advantage, like scooping up an abundant supply of peanuts. My inquisitive visitor is not like its...

    Nikon SE II

I see in this week's 'Amateur Photographer' magazine (w/e Saturday 12/01/2013) the Nikon SE 8x32 is reduced from £578 to £349, a saving of £229, at Cameraworld London and also at their Chelmsford (Essex) shop, while stocks last.

Eagle Optics to stop carrying Nikon ?

I'm intrigued. Nikon "too hard to deal with"? What does that mean? Dealers' profit margins too low in comparison with other leading makes? Slow stock replenishment? Confusing lines or model specifications? Poor customer after-sales service? I'd expect Nikon, as one of the best optics...

    King of the Garden?

Birds of different types tend to steer clear of one another, but today I saw a Magpie and a Herring Gull perched side by side on a TV aerial for a minute or more, neither bothering the other. In the daily ground-feeding garden melee, the Jays often hold sway, unafraid of the bodily larger...

    Report: BGA Classic 7x36

A very good deal indeed. At that price, I wish I'd bought it, but since I have one already... I must say that my Delta looks and feels like an expensive binocular, at least as good as my Zeiss Conquest, since its satin-smooth rubber covering is a tactile delight, unlike the Zeiss.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

For the first time ever in my garden yesterday, TWO Nuthatches. There has been the odd single visitor on occasions, but never a pair before. They were definitely together, as they came as a pair and left the same way. Striking plumage with characteristic black eye-band.

    Report: BGA Classic 7x36

I now see there's an Opticron 7x36 BGA Classic for auction on UK eBay with 2 days to go, quoted as having cost around £300 when new and now offered at a starting price of £150. It's the spitting image of the Delta 7x36 in every way except the name. I won't bore you with any more such...

    Report: BGA Classic 7x36

I've visited the Eagle Optics website to compare in more detail the Swift Eaglet 7x36 with my recently bought Delta 7x36, and they are twins, apart from their respective names. Build quality does seem to be impressive, and both Eaglet and Delta have the same J-B35 Japanese code. With a low...

    Report: BGA Classic 7x36

I've just bought a used Delta 7x36 (marketed when new by 'in focus') in excellent condition on UK eBay for £48 (c.$77). Comparing it with the Eaglet 7x36, it's identical, and with the Classic 7x36 BGA from Opticron it's clearly a clone apart from slight cosmetic differences in the body shape...

    My New Zeiss

Torview: I'd been following your experiences with the Zeiss Conquest 8x40 (AK) and by chance saw one for sale on UK eBay yesterday. It was at £360 with a few hours to go, so I put it on my 'watch list', even though I expected the price to go much higher. I forgot to check progress until it was...

    HT's in August...ooops.... September

Isn't it obvious? Because you're antipodean (aka 'southpaws' or 'left-footers') they have to make special upside-down models for you blokes 'down under', so costs go up of course... Crikey, mate, it's not rocket science!

    A completed set.

It's double Dutch to me, maybe double entendre, or even "all my eye and Betty Martin"...

Mystery Nikon 8x42 7º WATERPROOF bins.

Some people don't like the Nikon 8x42HG since it's quite heavy, but I love mine because of its weight and shape, boosting confidence in its ability to do a good job. The HG is far more robust than the later, lighter HGL (which looks the same, but its rubber is much softer) and I also prefer the...
