    Product Review: Nikon E II 8 x 30.

I used them in the Alps without any problem. It was also a good test for chromatic aberration: lots of B&W high-contrast scenery (it passed). But on very warm days the leather-like layer may start sort of moving a bit.

    Nikon WX 10x50 IF

That's because they pay an (IMHO) unreasonable attention to distortion. Inexplicably, they seem to be unaware of the rolling-ball effect and the intentionally added pincushion distortion to combat this, as some people find that a perfectly distortion-free binocular can induce nausea. I e-mailed...

    In-flight manners

Found a nice paragliding forum thread discussing flying habits of different birds (mostly soaring variety), it's something not commonly found in birding books since the perspective is a bit exotic perhaps. Personally I didn't have many encounters with birds while flying my paraglider (a couple...

    Looking for a new bino . 8X30EII ?

The EII are simply excellent binoculars, I'd say any difference between them and anything else in terms of sharpness or brightness is going to be visible only in A/B tests. In other words, it's simply top-notch and I doubt very much you'll notice any difference in real life use. (For me nothing...

Now the SE is no more how long does the EII have ?

It's logical but logic of any kind never enters into marketing. IMHO the field consists entirely of incompetents. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the SE was discontinued but the EII was not. There are many on the Internet.

    Blackout in the SE models.

It seems to be an individual thing. There are people who have 0 problems while others ended up selling the binocular they could not use. The cause seems to be the eyepiece suffering from the spherical aberration of the exit pupil (scroll down). It doesn't degrade image quality, only the...

Trying to understand birds a little

Just trying to understand some bird psychology from a flying human perspective :-) I'm normally in the binocular section of this forum so apologies if this subject has been talked about before. Few years ago while on vacation in Switzerland I took a tandem paraglider ride (in Europe's mountain...

    Nikon Monarch 7 new 8x30 and 10x30

Is the AFOV calculated according to the formula everyone uses or is it calculated using the Nikon-only-let's-shoot-ourselves-in-the-foot-and-confuse-everyone-while-we-are-at-it one? -- Jan

To all the lovers of the EII - Allbinos test

BTW, does this mean the EII are back on the US Nikon site? I'm looking at this. -- Jan

To all the lovers of the EII - Allbinos test

This is something that has been pointed out to Arek many times to no avail. Assigning a score to the amount of distortion certain distance from the center is an obviously misleading quantification method that only introduces noise to the total. -- Jan

To all the lovers of the EII - Allbinos test

Just don't use the glasses, I always take mine off. There is no way to see the 70-degree AFOV with glasses on (not to mention light leaking from the sides). -- Jan

    Nikon EII 8x30

Having said that, it's by their own design. The manufacturers have been bending over backwards for years to create an impression that "roof is better", and that's the result. An almost identical situation exists in the photography market where an equally false impression is being maintained by...

Does Nikon use ED glass in the SE and EII?

He is right you know ;) The Japanese Amazon has it here (the price is not bad). -- Jan
