    W.T.Eagle ( N W Norfolk ) reintroduction proposal

John, the location was not mentioned as the bird was on the move each day so it would have been pointless. For the record he returned to the Isle of Wight on Monday after over a year away. This supports exactly what was expected with these young birds, they also have brilliant navigational...

    W.T.Eagle ( N W Norfolk ) reintroduction proposal

Just for the record the WTE project on the Isle of Wight only released six birds in the first year as the project opener and to appease the local farming community etc. They wanted to ensure the project got off to a positive start. In 2020, Covid struck and it looked likely that there would be...

    PF500

I have had mine for a couple of months and I have no complaints whatsoever, only wish I had been in a financial position to have bought one earlier. The 200-500 zoom is a super lens as well but you feel the weight of it when you are lugging it around all day. I certainly appreciate the weight...

    EL close focus distance change?

I took the plunge and upgraded my old Leica Trinovid 10x42 for Swaro 10x42 EL FP this week. They are brilliant and I am guessing they are old stock as the close focus is 1.5 metres.

UK dragonfly & damselfly sightings 2020

Do you think they could be breeding there or migrants Paul? There has been two at the usual reservoir on the Isle of Wight during the last week. Again a possible local breeding site as ovipositing seen there during the last two years.

request advice upgrading from bridge camera to DSLR

Good luck, I have had the same combination for the past couple of months and I have been very happy with the number of keepers. I have hand held all of the time and found it not as heavy as I imagined. TBF I have not had the opportunity to try a Tammy G2 but I prefer the Nikon to the Sigma...

    Digiscoping with Kowa TSN4

Hi Joachim, Many thanks for explaining the difference between the two zoom eyepieces. The scope will be mainly used in a hide at a local nature reserve so I will stick with the HDF for the time being as waterproofing is not an issue. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Jim

    Digiscoping with Kowa TSN4

Many thanks for your replies, Paul and Pete. The Opticron Smartphone mount looks a good option. One question for Pete please. The 20-60 zoom lens is the HDF version, would I see any appreciable improvement with a SDL v2 zoom?. Obviously as the TSN4 is a 77mm scope, the magnification on both...

    Digiscoping with Kowa TSN4

I have just bought a Kowa TSN4 with the Opticron 20-60 zoom eyepiece. I am wanting to take photos of colour-ringed waders and gulls, what is the best camera option please and do I need an adapter?. Thank you.

    Nikon Lenses

Dave, I do not know if you are still looking around but if it is down to budget the 80-400 is a decent lens to use. Out of interest the winner of the Bird Photographer of the Year award for Birds in Flight, Sienna Anderson, used that old lens for her Little Egret shot which Chris Packham...
