    Vilafafila - Great Bustard

Hi Yves, I've always been there in the first week of May, mainly because it's in the north of Spain and the weather is more unsettled than further south so I would say go in May. Good luck John

    Azure-winged Magpies becoming tamer

Hi Simon, I noticed how tame they were when I first went to the Algarve about 12-13 years ago, staying at the Oasis Village Vilamoura. Obviously people there have been feeding them before this and they have become so used to being fed they come looking for it each morning, some being bold enough...

Flying to Faro to visit Coto Donana

Thanks for clearing that up Simon, only I remember a while ago they were planning for a toll station at the border, obviously they didn't do it. Coming back from Spain providing you exit at the Castro Marim/Beja junction you miss the toll checkpoint, that starts just after you join the A22...

Flying to Faro to visit Coto Donana

How can you do that Andrew, you can only cross into Spain on the toll road, isn't there a toll checkpoint at the border?

Flying to Faro to visit Coto Donana

I've done this several times but recently most car hire companies charge 30euros to travel into Spain, the best one I've found is 'Travelrent', booked through 'Economycarhire', they only charge 10euros. The toll road is the only practical route into Spain so you will have to use it and probably...

    Downloadable raw software

You could give 'Faststone Image Viewer' a try, it's free, supports Raw files and easy to get your head around. It's quite simple to use and will convert raw files to Tiff (or Jpeg) then has some further editing tools to use on your Jpgs or you can send them to another editor to finish them off.

    Roller and Golden Oriole

Many thanks Simon, there's obviously a lot of birds in the Algarve the casual visitor doesn't get to see through lack of time, effort, and visiting the same well known places instead of trying new areas.

    Roller and Golden Oriole

Simon, did your area include the Odeleite - Alcoutim road, I've seen some good looking eucalyptus (or similar looking) stands along here.

    Algarve November 2014.

Algarve Trip 6th-21st Nov. 2014 (part 6) Wed. 19th Nov. Rain overnight. Cloudy and windy most of the day with some light rain. It looked a bit lighter to the east so set off for Tavira, mist and fog on the inland side of the A22 near Faro didn't bode well and Tavira was also overcast but not as...

    Algarve November 2014.

Algarve Trip 6th-21st Nov. 2014 (part 5) Sun. 16th Nov. A pre-breakfast visit to Falesia Lagoon gave an Osprey fishing briefly before flying back to the coast, 2 Little Bitterns calling, Purple Gallinules, Water Rail, Black-headed Weaver, Penduline Tit, Sardinian, Fan-tailed and Cetti's...

    Algarve November 2014.

Algarve Trip 6th-21st Nov. 2014 (part 4) Thurs. 13th Nov. This is what makes the Oasis so good, sitting on the balcony having breakfast and watching Azure-winged Magpies, Iberian Green Woodpecker, Black Redstart, Chiffchaffs, Robin and a couple of Crag Martins, beats a luxury room anytime. Off...
