    Trinovid hype

When I was a kid, the 1960s, my dad would get the current Eddie Bauer catalog and we would both drool over all the very expensive, super cool stuff. I very clearly remember seeing the Leitz Trinovid’s in the catalog and dreaming of owning a pair. They looked so slim and futuristic, but they were...

    Leica Bins

Coincidental to this post, my first two quality binoculars were pair of 7x50 Fujinon MTRC and a 7x35 Trinovid B. It was the early 80s and I was driving boats around Hawaii and delivering sailboats to the mainland. Those Fujinons with the built in compass we're invaluable for navigating and...

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

I think you missed it, though not said in those exact words, pretty much from the beginning, we’ve been trying to convince the OP that brightness has nothing to do with the size of the exit pupil. As an example I pointed out how my 7x21 Curios were way brighter than my 7x50 Fujinons.

Leica Trinovid 10x42 BA / What is causing this?

I’m glad you got them repaired to your satisfaction, but I’m pretty sure Leica would have repaired them under warranty, fungus or no fungus.

    Leica Noctivid problems

What did Leica say? It’s my understanding that Leica usually fixes it even if it is the users fault.

    Leica Noctivid problems

Or he got them back and didn’t deem worth his while to come back here to let us know. It’s kind of suspicious how he posted once and never returned.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

Bottom line, regardless of whether the Retros are at the top, or slightly below in brightness, they are so good overall that it really doesn’t matter.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

When I say my 7x21 Curios are brighter than my 7x35 Retrovids, they are, but the Retrovids are plenty bright. If I didn’t own both to spend time side by side, I would never have suspected that. Regardless, the 7x35 are my current favorites and get used the most.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

At first I did too, but it was so over the top ridiculous, that coupled with the Abraham Lincoln comment, I highly suspected a joke. Pretty good one too.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

I assumed the whole post was a joke, maybe not. It’s hard to tell over the internet.

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

I’m not putting the Duovid down, it’s a great Leica optic, but you posted your original comment about it being noticeably less bright than your 19x32 NLs, I hadn’t thought about it much either way. That said, I wasn’t surprised to read that it was less bright. I always assumed there were some...

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

That’s because you’re comparing two like binoculars, same top of line, quality glass, prisms, coatings, same NL design, so you eliminated all the factors except size. In that case, and it being nighttime, the larger ep will rule every time. Your original post was comparing an older Duovid to an...

Swarovski NL 8x32 vs Leica Duovid 8+12x42 Brightness Mystery

Hi Tim, I posted earlier about my little 7x21 Swarovski Curios being brighter than my 8x42 Pentax and 7x50 Fujinons. The larger exit pupils are only relevant when it gets dark enough for your eyes pupils to open up bigger than the binoculars ep, and even then the difference in coatings...

    Ultravid 7x42 HD+ vs Noctivid 8x42

I’m sure you know, since you pointed out the date of your Trinovids, that that 2012-15 version I’d right up there with the Ultravids. I think it’s slightly heavier, but my buddies 8x42 2015 Trinovid is equal to my 8x42 every time I compare them.
