    Garden Visitors

I have avoided feeding the birds for years as my neighbors seem to do a fine job, however on the way home from work I broke down and got one of those three tube squirrel resistant feeders. I proceeded to load it with three varieties of seed. Thistle, sunflower and a songbird mix. Well one thing...

    An all-important reminder

This thread started out about cats killing birds. Not wild cats but our pet cats. I made a comment on how I feel about letting cats run loose. Yes I hate to see them out and about. Now immediately someone attacks me because of my address USA saying something about how we declaw cats and...

    An all-important reminder

I think we are being redundant on this subject. I have two cat in my house and that is where they live. They are domestic animals who I do not want to see under the wheels of a vehicle. Also that word domestic has nothing to do with the balance of nature ie rats and other rodents eating bird...

    The Rye Meads Fox

I haven't seen your fox but I have some shots of foxes. The sad thing I have to relay is one has a terrible case of the mange and another has a porqupine quill in an eye. He must have been eating on one and impaled his eye. I am sure he will survive as I watch it hunt very successfully for about...

First dark-eyed Junco of the year.

It seems when the Junco arrive the snow is two weeks behind. However that really isn't the case at all. The little devils are here all year long, they just flock up now. I was walking along a ledge when one flittered out and acted hurt not to be fooled I looked very carefully and found the nest...

Sparrow ID - Central Ohio, U.S.

I believe you have answered your own question. Field sparrow. I am not an expert on sparrows but the only others with the white eye ring don't fit and the stout pink bill is right.

    Milksnake

Better known as a spooted adder in New England this boy get a bum rap. Folks here think it is poisonus as it emulates a rattlesnake when disturbed. It will strike and bite if handled

    Me Again

This little house wren on its first flight has caught my fancy. I hope not to be redundant but isn't just as cute as a button? This was my House wrens second hatch. They stole a house from some House sparrows. This was accomplished by a sing off. The wrens won but called in another pair to help...

I took this shot from about 15 feet. I was in a hurry and my lens was all the way out to 500. Much to much lens for the shot, but the wren was on its first flight and within seconds was into a lilac bush and out of sight. Had no time to make decisions. I truly love my wrens. What is Neat Image.

How many times have you seen a bittern?

Maybe we are not on the same Bittern page but I see them on a regular basis. I am speaking of the American Bittern. I do have a shot of one in my gallery. Sushi anyone as it is devouring a small catfish. I am hoping to get a shot of a Least Bittern and a Virginia Rail. I see the rails at a...
