And if you want to be taxonomically more precise, the flycatcher is M. a. melvillensis

Salvin's Albatross? - Bass Strait, Tasmania

G'day I photographed this bird early in January. I think this is an adult bird and that the darker face makes it a Salvins ... Regards, Laurie

Resting Thalassarche type Albatross - Bass Strait, Tasmania

G'day I photographed this chap close to the Tasmanian coastline in January this year. It was sitting on the water, so I don't have an underwing shot. I'm mystified by the yellow spot back from the end of its bill. Regards, Laurie.

Shy or Salvins Albatross - Bass Strait, Tasmania

G'day I photographed this Thalassarche type Albatross in December. I believe the underwing pattern indicates it is either a shy or salvins. Regards, Laurie.

A Charadrius plover in Brisbane - Vagrant or aberrant plumage?

G'day I've attached a few pix of Charadrius type plover located in Brisbane yesterday that has interested the local birders. The local species is the Red-capped Plover, and it is possible that this bird is an aberrantly plumaged immature RCP. I've attached a couple of pix that include RCP for...

    Immature Crimson Chat? Northern Territory

G'day, I came across this chap at Newhaven (off the Tanami Rd in Central Australia). I originally thought it was a hornbill/geregone, but now believe it is an immature Crimson Chat. Regards, Laurie.

Shore bird, Merimbula, NSW, Australia today

Definitely bar-tails - you can see the barring on some of them. A proportion of them overwinter here. Some may be younger birds that aren't breeding this year ...

Yes, the white rump suggests a Swamp Harrier. How was it behaving? Harriers have a characteristic cruising pattern ...

    Little or Torresian Crow? (Australia)

G'day I came across this corvid at the Devil's Marbles (NT) last week. At the time I thought it was an immature Little Crow (it looked slimmer and smaller than the average Torresian) but its bill looks a bit long ... Regards, Laurie

A nesting woodland bird, Stanthorpe (Queensland, Australia)

Thanks Larry. At the time I thought the bird was smaller than a whistler and the white underparts are not consistent with the plumage of a female Rufous Whistler (which is typically buff to cinnamon).

A nesting woodland bird, Stanthorpe (Queensland, Australia)

G'day I was out with my camera (but not my bins) this morning on a property near the NSW border. I came across a chest high nest with a pair of freshly hatched chicks. I moved away and photographed the parent when it returned shortly after. At the time it looked like a thornbill/gerygone...

    Swiftlets at the Penang Port

G'day I photographed these chaps while a ship berthed at Penang in October. Not sure if they are all the same species, but the jizz of a couple seems to be a bit different to the Black-Nest types ... Regards, Laurie.

A bit of an odd shearwater, Western Australia

G'day Rob Thanks and sorry for the delay in replying - I photographed the bird at the end of October. Regards, Laurie

    A scurvy looking Myna, Penang

G'day I photographed this chap in Penang in October. Is it a mangy Common Myna, or is it a different species? Regards, Laurie.
