    Jaret Owens Bino Pack

Thread revival/update. Jaret at Alaskan Guide Creations is now making a "compact" model of the bino pack Annabeth describes in the original post. It has no zippered pockets on the front or side (small elastic mesh pouches now on sides). Elastic cord/hook closes the lid rather than a buckle...

    Raptor dining in the cold

Saw this hawk kill a small bird and take it back to the branch for plucking and eating. Sorry about the photo quality but my point and shoot zoom was near max. Barred tail. Head color has got me stumped. Location: SE Oklahoma Thinking immature sharp shinned, Coopers, red-shouldered? My best...

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

Looks good. I'm trying some paracord right now to replace the split ring. Pretty simple with a non-slip loop. I just don't like split rings/key rings. Of course, the obvious and easiest solution is a small zip tie. I do like the provided quick release connection to the harness. I bought an...

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

    >>he uses these vortex straps just in addtion to the metal ring provided with his harness<< Exactly, and this increases the length of the connection. My harness is at home but I'm going to work on a method to eliminate the split ring completely.

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

I stand corrected on split ring/bino damage. Thanks I am going to look into a non-metal connector but I would like to come up with one that does not make the whole connection longer. A longer connection apparatus allows more bino flop and takes away from the nice secure feeling of the Rick...

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

The Nimrod is a step up from the all-elastic Crooked Horn type of harness. I still use the Nimrod with my hefty Gold Rings. In warm weather I don't like the back patch of material working up towards my neck. Not a problem with a coat.

    Rick Young Binocular Harness/strap

Agree with Osage 100%. Except I didn't "upgrade" my connectors. If someone will post some photos of real bino damage due to split rings I might consider it but I seriously doubt it. Probably more speculation. I did get an extra pair of Rick's quick release connectors so I easily go from one...

    GR 8x32

In case anyone is looking, there are some 8x32 GR listed for sale on archery talk forum. I've got no association with seller or the binocular.

The sound of my new SLC focus.. (audio attachment)

The price of the SLC-HD became a little more tolerable when it recently attained "discontinued" status (assuming you can find one). Good point on the focus distance for hunters but some of my most interesting birding is while camo-ed up hunting in a treestand. I've had sharp-shinned hawks and...

The sound of my new SLC focus.. (audio attachment)

I can't decide if I'm fortunate to be a heavy handed non-discerning hunter or a birder who lucked into an SLC-HD with a perfect focuser.

    Swarovski wins

I spent the past year trying to decide between the Zeiss and Swaro. I wanted to like the HT or the Conquest HD because I liked the view but it was too picky about positioning on my face. The fit just wasn't there (eye cups or eye relief, I don't know). The "old" SLC (SLC-HD) was....perfect...

    Ultra-Light Bino Harness..

I have the Rick Young harness and use it all the time with my 8x32 binos. I gave away all my stretchy strap harnesses. The RY works well when changing garment layers. Also no problem under a backpack. It is very minimal. When you first receive it, you'll think they forgot some parts but I...

    New Swarovski SLC 42 Binoculars

KF: are the eye pieces/eye cups the same on the SLC vs SLC HD? I hope they didn't change the ergonomics. The eye positioning/face fit of the HD's are perfect for me.

    New Swarovski SLC 42 Binoculars

I wondered if this was primarily a marketing decision to get the SLC in a specific price point. Something had to give and the focus change cut the cost and since the SLC is targeted to hunters the loss of close focus was not an important feature to most of their buyers. Kingfisher: are the...
