    Birds fae Torry

Had cracking views of gannets feeding close in to the foghorn and a second (dark phase) arctic skua joining the paler one that's been around for a while.

    Birds fae Torry

Thanks for confirming that it was a moorhen I briefly saw when out for a run at lunchtime. Best recent sighting for me was a young cuckoo when playing golf on Thursday afternoon.

    Birds fae Torry

It certainly felt that there were plenty of migrants around yesterday. Only had about an hour (at lunchtime in the mist and drizzle) so headed up to the Battery. Poor views of a small brown warbler (skulking in a bush) on the way make me unsure of its identity. A Stonechat and numerous thrushes...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Ythan Didn't manage to pick out Spotted Redshank or Pectoral Sandpiper from the Waulkmill Hide yesterday but I wouldn't be surprised if they were there (my lack of skill and experience with the waders failed me here). There was a Little Egret, Ruff, Greenshank, 2 x Bar-tailed Godwit...

    Northeast Aberdeen and Donmouth

I haven't seen the waxwings this year (but haven't looked around that area). I would put the Ythan in Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire.

I had good views of a Kingfisher fishing in the same area last week and at least four Little Grebes.

E-petition "Licencing upland grouse shoots and gamekeepers"

Great to see this now above 10,000 signatures but it wouldn't harm to get a few more.

Handbook of Scotish Birds? Birdwatching nearby Aberdeen?

Although I've never travelled from Aberdeen to Newburgh on public transport, it should be fairly easy. There's good birding here around the Ythan Estuary: http://www.the-soc.org.uk/birdwatching-around-the-ythan-estuary/

I managed to miss the recent good birds (Greenish Warbler; Wryneck) on my Findon patch. The best I could manage yesterday was Great Skua out to sea, a couple of Wheatear on the coast, and Golden Plover and Snipe at Rigifa Field (no longer a pool).

    Sparrowhawk with prey (Wednesday)

I'd be happy to get pictures like that with a high ISO through smeary glass.

    Bassenthwaite Osprey Project 2013

Excellent news! It would be great if there were more breeding ospreys in Lakeland.

    Birds fae Torry

Black Redstart on rocks west along low path from the Battery (and also on the breakwater), first seen at lunchtime but still there around 6pm. Looked like an immature male. Seems early for one of these to turn up... Dunlin and a flock of about 25 Knot also seen.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Although it's now Rigifa ex-Pool, a Golden Plover stopped by last night.
