All right for a juvenile though, thinking about it.

There seem to be a few gaps in knowledge regarding British Siskin's breeding biology. For example BTO can't give a first clutch laying date; http://app.bto.org/birdfacts/results/bob16540.htm I tend to encounter young Siskins locally in May-June but these may well be 2nd broods; April fledging...

Interestingly some of our local Siskins bred really early this year with young fledged in April so alternatively your birds might involve a more local post-breeding movement.

Hi Rach. I don't know that area well but Siskin breed much further south e.g. they are common in the Peak District to the west of Sheffield, Wales, the Norfolk Brecks, parts of the south coast etc. (see this map...

I'll leave it to people with more local knowledge to comment about short trips for your targets from Bempton but, if nothing suitable is forthcoming, there are plenty of options in terms of short diversions on your way there/home.

Give it a month or so and (hopefully) both adults will be bringing food in so should show much more regularly then currently. Always a good idea to go later at the publicised Honey Buzzard sites too; food flights can be as regular as 40-45 minutes in August, rather then the 3hr plus waits...

I don't know that area but Nightjar have been back in the South Yorkshire Peak District since 16th May, and on the Humber Peatlands (Hatfield and Thorne Moors) since at least 13th May, so if it's a good site birds should be present by now. However the current cold windy weather appears to be...

    Yorkshire Birding

Hi Linda. Had the same call last week. I checked the site where the Sheffield traffic light pair nested last year but no sign of any activity. A slightly tardy pair may not have build yet though; I was watching Mistle Thrush getting on with building (in a tree) last week.

Sounds like people would have to be very quick off the mark on that one Halftwo; only 13 minutes between the first and last report.
