    Missing two babies

Any number of predators could have taken them, it only takes seconds. Once a predator has found a nest they will often return and clear it out. The young doves will have gone to feed the young of some other creature.

Southern Lakes, Cumbria, UK - audio of birdsong 19th April 2024

It sounds like a Blue Tit

    Composition

For the bluebird I prefer the upper one. The background colours work better with the colours of the bird. Plus the bird isn't central, it would better if bird was over to the left or right. Imagine if the frame is divided into thirds left to right and top to bottom. The interest should be on...

    Feeding nestlings.

Are you rescue feeding the nestlings or are you putting out food that the adults are feeding to the young?

    Birdforum App

The "app" is just a wrapper that your browser puts around a suitably configured website. The site will look the same but without the extraneous toolbars and sidebars of your browser. It makes for a cleaner viewing experience but it can make it harder to cut and paste between pages, especially...

Crowned Cranes - are they introduced in the UAE?

Starting in about 2000 there was a craze in the UAE to have cranes as a status symbol. The cranes were illegally imported and released into gardens, golf courses and landscaped developments as decoration. There was a clampdown led by CITES around 2009 but the existing cranes have escaped their...

    Recording noc-mig direct to laptop

If your laptop has a mic in, or a composite input for a mic/headset, then you should be fine. If not then you will need some sort of adapter. But a straight pre-amp will only be of use if your laptop has a line in, otherwise you will need a USB sound card.

    Camera app?

Zopkins recommend CamHipro but it has terrible reviews. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hichip.campro Any IP camera app should work. I would try some of the free ones and see you what you think. Can't comment on particular ones but this one is well reviewed and free...

    Ocular Lens Size

I have only heard the term eye-box before in reference to rifle scopes. It being the point in space behind the scope you have to place your eye in order to use the scope. It is very much a function of the scope design rather than of the human face. Binoculars will have an eye-box but it is...

Wearing white and talking while birding?

Choice of clothing is much more important when watching mammals. Birds don't seem to give a fig. The folk clad head to foot in camouflage sat in a hide at a bird reserve are LARPing just as much as Civil War reenactment types.

    Best marine binoculars?

I love using my Vortex Fury 6.5x32 when sailing. They are light and handy, easy to use one handed and I wouldn't be that heart-broken if they fell aboard.

    Best marine binoculars?

The yacht world has developed a fixation with IF 7x50 porros, most chandlers don't sell anything but. Provided they are waterproof a pair of 7x42 roofs will do the maritime job just as well and be much more versatile when not at sea.
