Anybody any ideas as to the identity of this gull, my impression is that it's a Glaucous/Herring Gull hybrid, opinions welcomed please. nirofo.

    This years bowland

I am a member of one of the Raptor Study Groups and an independant raptor worker and to my knowledge there was no voting on whether to kick out as you put it the NWRPG, if there was it was kept a secret from the majority of members which wouldn't be very democratic would it ? As far as I am...

    1/4" - 3/8" Thread

The original camera, lens, and tripod standard threads are 1/4" x 20 and 3/8" x 16 Whitworth, although the equivalent UNC threads in the short sections needed for tripods etc will fit just as well and don't lock up, I've used both with no problems. If you have access to a lathe they are easy to...

    Turquoise colour cast??

If you are saving your images for the web they need to be converted to srgb, if you don't the web page will convert them itself, this will in most cases give you a colour shift you didn't expect. If you are using Photoshop and Adobe RGB as your colour profile and saving your image as a jpg, then...

What Goes On In Scotlands Estates

Lets get something straight here, Hen Harriers very rarely if ever take eggs from a nest, it's not what they do, it would also be extremely rare if they ever took Red Grouse chicks directly from a nest because the young are nidifugous and leave the nest within hours of hatching. There's no...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

It's the camera that's producing the effect not the lens, the image is soft due to movement and is out of focus. The Nikon 500 f4 AF-S is one of the best lenses around and is more than capable of producing top notch results when used correctly, having said that it's not really the best lens to...

    Tawny owls and fish

It may be worth your while to contact Derek Whiteley at Weston Park Museum, Sheffield, he was the guy who originally disected the pellets and identified the remains for us. Here's his email address: [email protected] nirofo.

    Tawny owls and fish

I remember years ago sending several Tawny Owl pellets to Sheffield Museum, they contained the bones and scales from Brown Trout and Dace. I think the owls will take any prey that presents them with an opportunity. nirofo.
