    AOU-NACC proposals 2014

The current list on the AOU website, with 54th Supplement included, in fact DOES have subspecies in the html page coding. Their display, however, is suppressed. If you save a copy of the page file to your computer, you can use a text editor to add a single line just above the </style> tag...

    AOU-NACC proposals 2013

In addition to the Chicago and Cape Cod (2013) reports, a bird photographed at Renews, Newfoundland, Canada, on 30 June 2013 may also pertain to this taxon. photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/89939334@N04/9187246046/in/pool-ebird photos...

    Sibley Guide, 2nd edition

And let's hope this time SOMEone will be at the printers to check the reds on the first proofs. I cringe every time the current book flops open to the Brown Thrasher.

AOU vs ABA established non native birds

Thanks for the reference; and sorry I misunderstood the species in question. Which prompts me to ask, Is there any validity in the subspecies epithet Gallus gallus domesticus? It's often bandied about in non-technical writing. Mike

AOU vs ABA established non native birds

Cacatua galerita Sulphur‑crested Cockatoo? My notes suggest not established. But my notes are a bit dated.

    Galloanserae

Thanks. John Wells's dictionary gives all of five variants, British and American, none of them mine. I think I'll stick with it nonetheless. æ puh TOE sis It preserves the morpheme boundary and phonotactics.

    Galloanserae

Aviporn. Who'd a-thunk it. Anent the abstract, anyone care to weigh in with a pronunciation of "apoptosis"? A while back I conducted an informal survey among American physicians. I couldn't get a single one to use my pronunciation. All supplied "ah-POP-tuh-sis".

    AOU-NACC proposals 2013

I've been told that it's an Indo-European relict: humans who have not reached sexual maturity have no sex and get a neuter gender noun. Russian still uses a neuter noun for infant: дитя (ditya).

field guide for Mongolia and Russia

    V. E. Flint. A Field Guide to the Birds of the USSR. Translated from the original Russian (and well done). Paperback from Amazon. Would complement the Brazil guide, despite its age (1984). Many larger libraries are likely to have a copy. Mike

    IOC World Bird List: format

Oddly, displays just fine on my cellphone with Documents to Go! Was quite pleased. I wonder if the leading spaces for subspecies (to indent) will cause anyone problems. If so, I suppose one could save it as a .csv file and do a global search-and-replace to weed them out. Alternatively, the...
