Help with Bonelli's Eagle and Eagle Owl in northern Spain

Hi I'm heading to northern Spain in early March. Planning to focus on Sierra de Guara and Zaragosa Steppes. The friend I'm travelling with has never seen Bonelli's Eagle or Eagle Owl. Appreciate the latter is particularly sensitive but does anyone have any tips for sites to check for either...

    The Highlands and Islands Thread

Hi It's been a while since I've visited the Speyside area but hoping to visit this spring. Can anyone tell me if RSPB / SNH still prevent early access to areas like Forest Lodge during April and May. Prefer to avoid the crowds but seem to remember barriers and signs in place to prevent...

    Norfolk birding

Thanks Stuart. Am guessing The Leas will be busy tomorrow. Early start required to secure a seat. Protection from the elements going to be needed - heavy rain and gusting 50mph NW most of the afternoon.

    Norfolk birding

Cley or Sheringham? Haven't visited for a while but remember the last time I did that the viewing at Cley was getting difficult.

    Seawatching 2012

Agreed. Latest Magicseaweed forecast and shipping forecast suggest Pendeen from dawn onwards could be good. Perhaps not classic conditions and the drop off in winds overnight might be a slight issue. But with the number of interesting seabirds in the area at the moment then any WNW wind force...

    Seawatching 2011

Three Wilson's Petrels off Pendeen so far this morning. Including a bird that lingered for 25 minutes inside the rocks, feeding on a patch of seaweed. Also, 4 Sabine's Gulls and a Great Shearwater. Winds set to veer WNW and increase from about midday onwards ....

    Seawatching 2011

Hi Dan Use a variety of forecasts to try and predict (is that ever possible?) what might be best. They are: Land's End wind chart - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ (hover over Seven Stones Light Vessel arrow) UK & Ireland Wind Chart -...

Hopefully be there as well. Although going to be interesting choosing where 'there' is, with winds forecast to be veering and backing between S, SW, W and NW over the three days. Depends on which forecast you read but taking an average at the moment it looks like Porthgwarra on Saturday...

    The Autumn is Over..

Still plenty of opportunity. November can be a great month for rarities. Numbers are often fewer but quality can be exceptional. Bit like June and the 'end of spring'. In 'recent' Novembers the following have been found (from memory, so might not be 100% accurate): Steller's Eider, Snowy Egret...

UK - spring migrants or over wintering?

Apologies for cross posting (just put something similar on UK400Club) but: Agree that all may well have been over wintering birds (or misidentified) but: Stone Curlew on one day in Cornwall only a month before they normally arrive and Garganey on a weekend in a county where temperatures hit 15+...

UK - spring migrants or over wintering?

Take a look at all the following reports relating to spring migrants in the UK since January 1st (I'm sure there are more but this is all I could think of and find details of): Garganey - Ugie Estuary (Abeerdenshire) on 03/02/08 and CWP (Wiltshire) on 10/02/08 Hobby - Flixton (Suffolk) on...
