    Petrel in North Atlantic

Sailing towards St Johns, Newfoundland 20th September. Had already seen Wilson’s Petrel but reviewing photos later, realised this was different. Bulwers has not, apparently, been recorded in NF/Labrador, and tail clearly wrong. Might it be Swinhoe’s? Did ID Leach’s later, but gather some do not...

    Wheatear on Isle of May

Reviewing old pictures from a trip to Isle of May on 29/8/17, and came across the attached. I have always assumed a Northern - any thoughts to the contrary?

    Thick-billed Vireo? Grand Bahama

Thanks, chaps, albeit disappointed!! It would also explain why the Mockingbirds I saw many of during the day were different.

    Cape May or Palm Warbler?

Stepped of my ship in the cruise terminal near Freeport, Grand Bahama 16th February 2019, and immediately spotted the Warbler in the second photo. It was not obviously tail-flicking. A while later, and about 100m away, I spotted the Warbler in the first photo, again no obvious tail-flicking. I...

    Thick-billed Vireo? Grand Bahama

Arrived by cruise ship to terminal near Freeport 16th February 2019 and from the ship, spotted this bird (2 actually) on the rooves of the terminal shops. Photo taken at full 40x zoom plus digital and birds were about 50m away. Bill doesn’t look heavy enough but never having seen a...

    Bunting ID - Croatia

I am staying at Cavtat, near Dubrovnik, and this culvert is close to the hotel. When the bird landed on the concrete surround, my immediate reaction was Cirl Bunting, and I grabbed my camera as it dropped into the water to bathe. It now looks a different bird as a result of the wetness and I am...

    Mystery raptor at Rhonda, Spain

I have come across this poor snap shot I took at Rhonda in mid-May 2014 whilst enjoying the views and looking out for the Choughs as they were a lifer for my brother. I obviously didn’t look at the bird thru bins and took a very quick snap of this bird en passant. Any clues anyone?!

    Shearwater at Teneriffe

Hopefully I’ve now attached a photo. This is one I took in April 2009 whilst looking for whales, and as a result, I did not pay attention to the birds. Looking now, I am thinking that these might be Scopoli’s due to colour and lack of dark underwing. I note from replies to my earlier post...

    Shearwater at Teneriffe

Sorting out some old pictures and came across this shot of shearwaters near Los Gigantes, Teneriffe in April 2009. At the time, I assumed they were Cory’s ( we were after the whales and not paying enough attention) but looking now, I am thinking Scopoli’s due to colour and lack of black on...

    Raptor Help, Please

Saw this bird yesterday in SE Menorca whilst searching for a Buzzard I had seen the day before ( see previous thread). I think it must be a young Booted Eagle, especially as I had seen at least one adult earlier in the morning.

    Common Buzzard in Menorca

I am currently in SE Menorca and yesterday saw what I took to be a Common Buzzard. I couldn't get a picture good enough to help. Collins suggests it is seen here on migration but 12th June seems late for that. Do they breed here?

    Mystery Bird in Mykonos

Thanks for the replies, but am a bit surprised with all due respect. Is the tail simply too large for Willow/Chiffchaff? I realise the angle is awkward, but even so. Oddly enough, I did see and photograph a WW about half a mile later.

    Mystery Bird in Mykonos

I hope someone can help me ID this bird. As you can see from the poor image, it was a very quick snap before the bird disappeared, and the auto-focus didn't react quick enough. The colours have not been adjusted but the original image has been cropped and sharpened. It was on high ground...

Warbler in Southampton - on board Britannia!

Whilst wandering around the upper decks of this brand new ship prior to her maiden voyage - 14th March 2015 - I spotted this young looking bird wondering why the imitation grass didn't have lots of food in it. Instant reaction - Chiffchaff. But in the pics, I noticed the blackish feathering...

    Lesvos without a car

When I went years ago, it was walking and bike hire. Did very well other than the Nuthatch. If you see someone cooking Prawn (Garides) Saganaki, go for it! It' s what dogs have two of, if you'll forgive the expression.
