    Dragonflies - Danube Delta, Romania

I agree with Ruddy Darter + the damsel is a Willow Spreadwing, possibly Eastern Willow Spreadwing based on the relatively dark brown pterostigmata, which are the brown 'spots' on each wing (it's not possible to be certain from this photo though and it could be a Western Willow Spreadwing - their...

    Locust - Landguard, Suffolk

I've just seen a photo of one of these on another forum which was taken today (with another nearby), so they are still present. As for the origin - true migrants, ship assisted, or released? Who knows!

    Dragon/Damselfly Id ~SW Turkey

I agree, a Long Skimmer and a good record. It would be worth reporting details of the sighting to Vincent Kalkman (at the email address in the pdf linked by honeym).

    Oman dragonflies (2)

Looks very much like it to me. (It's not I. evansii because that species has very short inferior abdomenal appendages which would be difficult to make out in this photo - but the inferior appendages are clearly visible).

    Kenya & Tanzania Dragonflies Nov/Dec 12

This is an Orthetrum species (a skimmer). It is probably possible to get a specific ID from the details visible in this photo, but I would need to check some literature!

    Kenya & Tanzania Dragonflies Nov/Dec 12

There is nothing at all readily available for East Africa at present - South African guides (eg. Samways) cover many of the species, but any ID that use them (including the ones I have suggested) has to take into account the fact that there may be similar closely related species...

    Kenya & Tanzania Dragonflies Nov/Dec 12

I agree with the three ID's that Paul has given, and would suggest that No. 2 is Orthetrum trinacria (Long Skimmer). I also agree with Scarlet Darter (AKA Broad Scarlet) for No. 4, but think that No. 5 may well be Southern Banded Groundling, Brachythemis leucosticta.

Shimba Hills NP Dragonflies 5 Dec 12

Try the following: 1). Voyaging Glider, Tramea limbata. 2). Portia Widow, Palpopleura portia. 3). Red-veined Dropwing, Tithemis arteriosa. 4). An Orthetrum species (several very similar species - I'm not even going to try!). 5). Black-splashed Elf, Tetrathemis polleni.

Kenyan Damselflies (Shimba Hills NP) Dec 12

The first one is likely to be Painted Sprite, Pseudagrion hageni. The second is a bit blurred, but might be Slate Sprite, Pseudagrion salisburyense. There are similar species though.

    Bulgarian Dragonfly for ID

Interesting Paul! I haven't pulled any books off the shelf to see if any more features are mentioned for identification of Southern Skimmer - but I will have a look sometime (though probably not until the new year).
