Where to see hoopoes, European bee-eater and European roller in Europe in September?

Try to find spots on migration pathways, that would be my bet. In these latitudes they are still frequently seen on the move at least until end September. Colonies/nests are often left much earlier, although these might be worth a check, for laggards and favourable habitat?

    new tiny Zoom F3 recorder

I mentioned 120 kHz because I like to check for bats too. I could set it to 192 mHz but the files are huge and after a few nights, it seems that the smaller species need to be really really close to be recorded, so in fact 192 kHz is useless even for this use case. I should have said "perfect...

Two questions from Trondheim, Norway, Sept 15: Sprawk or Goshawk? and which 1C "Comic" tern?

You don't need glasses to see it's striated. I'm talking about the OP not the other examples.

    birdNET Analyzer model update

It must also be in this range, these models are easily spoiled with too many samples from what I understand. And it's apparently quite easy to train them, using xeno-canto it should be possible to have many more species and countries, but it takes some time and organization, obviously... I...

    birdNET Analyzer model update

Thanks, I may try to update, although Costa Rica is certainly better served than Asia... (both Merlin and BirdNet were almost useless on a recent trip, even in excellent conditions, it was really shocking compared to Europe - but I still have some files so I can try again...)

Vomited Pellets in bird feeder similar to owl pellets.

A picture and a look at what's inside... else a cheap trail camera could also help, maybe. BTW other birds than owls can also produce pellets, I don't know your local species, but in Europe I have even seen kingfishers and wrynecks do it... (of course these are smaller pellets)

    Sound recorder

Again, NO! This would NOT happen if this equipment could withstand usual air conditions that can happen outside ("field" suggests "outside" to me, for some weird reason, not "dry air", but apparently I'm the only one here)... If anything conditions in the tent were much dryer than outside since...

    Sound recorder

You can find adaptors (chose the right one!), best way would be through USB-C anyway. Some small video mics have specs getting closer to pro microphones costing 1000+, with alimentation, so they should offer an obvious advantage compared to integrated ones - even if Apple has a good reputation...

    Sound recorder

Another option could be to use a good directional micro directly on your iPhone, like a Rode NTG - they have several models mostly for video, but some have very good specs for their (smaller than traditional mics) size. Sorry if this has already been discussed, else you should find some...

    Sound recorder

True, but I only noticed the tiny droplets inside the display AFTER I couldn't switch it on... A few month ago I already posted on this forum how I observed condensation inside the display, I suppose the lateral buttons are the issue (I'm using plugs to cover USB-C and 3.5mm!). At this time the...

    Bird ID Needed Sunbird, Thailand

There has been a lot of changes in taxonomy recently (maybe too many), this bird was included as a subspecies of the Olive-backed Sunbird, Cinnyris jugularis (ornatus), only a few years ago (maybe still included by some authorities), the genus was Nectarinia earlier, etc... you get the picture.

    Sound recorder

Nice story. I have the opposite experience. My Zoom F3 was BRICKED during a perfectly sunny day, after 1 drop of seawater penetrated inside (the recorder was OFF), I still don't know how it happened, I could only see tiny droplets on the wrong side of the display, ie on the inside., so I...

    Sound recorder

That's what I wanted to point out, they are small sized recorders that you can move around, which is a good thing, but calling them "field recorders" is dishonest, when a single droplet can brick them definitely...

    3 birds in Rouen, France

That's the problem with AI you still need to check everything... even if it has become incredibly efficient with good pictures, in some conditions you get very weird results! For e. either a Linnet or a Goldfinch on the right, not sure they are all the same species...
